So after a year of telling rappers they’re thinking Small, Hov is hiding 1st week sales numbers?

Dudes are slow, Jays whole thing with #Newrules was that the old ways of the record industry was dead but the labels didn't wanna adjust. That's why he left Def Jam.

In their stone age thinking they think that people that do exclusives on Tidal's most important thing in life is record sales. Or that Jay-z can stop companies worth 1000 times more than him from following the rules of the industry.
It's really impossible to know when people are dumb or trolling in the spot :wtf:
Are you serious?

The secrecy of the 1st week numbers are not only unusual, but it is quite damning if the projections were true and that the release was underwhelming by their standards. The idea of them opening less than the YE album in my eyes is embarrassing. Yet we will never know how much it sold, because they refuse to report the numbers.

It also questions the true relevance of Jay-Z. Jay-Z within this full decade appear to be beyond relevant over his other hip hop contemporaries, and it maybe true. However, the last TRUE sales-based success by Jay in my eyes was Blueprint 3. Everything else sense were either coat-tailing a collaborative success with some one else, like Kanye and his wife these days, or it's from some fugazi sales angle such as those bulk Verizon & Samsung deals. It have really been based off pure sales. And then there's Tidal fabricating numbers which make it all the more suspicious. I mean it is no argument as to how popular Beyoncé really is, but is Jay-Z as large as perceived or is this collaboration with Beyoncé is bringing her stock down a notch... IF the numbers that are hidden are what truly lower than they hoped?

Do you really think Hov cares about #s at this point? He wouldn't put 4:44 as exclusive and remove his whole discography from the biggest source of music consumption in Spotify, if that was the case. At least for this album they'll allow Spotify Premium.

The album was released on a non-standard day and exclusive, then allowed on some service, then remove, then only premium and on. Of course they couldn't produce an accurate forecast with that information. It's not even clear if Spotify will report numbers this week due to the exclusive thing.

Yes he does, He still gotta recoup that $250 million for Live Nation

I’m glad someone else has common sense. I was worried.

They dropped on a mid Saturday exclusivly on one platform , it’s impossible to forecast those numbers.

CHART BATTLE: IT'S TOO CLOSE TO CALL

It looks like a battle to the finish for #1 on today's chart, with the contest between the Jay-Z/Beyoncé project The Carters (Roc Nation/UMG-Parkwood/Columbia) and 5 Seconds of Summer (Capitol) still too close to call. Both titles are hovering around 120-125k; keep checking in as this fight goes to the wire.

Do you people even know what recoup means? Or that Live Nation cares about record sales when dudes are doing 50,100, 200 million dollar tours and Tech investments in the 100 million dollar class and on? Or the specifics of the deal?

Don’t answer, they were rhetorical.
