There was a free college in NY in my era.I don't remember the name , but I think it was an engineering school, and I'm sure it wasn't part of CUNY or SUNY.

Cooper Union is the school you're thinking of. The students get half scholarships now but I think they're trying to get back to free tuition. Basically every student getting a full scholarship like it was before. The school is crazy small so they've been able to do it for so long until recently.

Tuition was free but the other costs, like lab fees, student fees, etc came at a cost.

Haven't watched it but the UC system use to be tuition free and technical it still is, you only pay "fees" nowadays, but the fees use to be very small

For one, the video says something about a 25% increase in one thing, ended up in a 75% increase in tuition. That math doesn't add up.

yeah the premise of the video is correct that the attack on the welfare state is fueled by anti black racism, but the reason for the rise in tuition, specifically, has more factors than that
