Microsoft wouldn't do it, so sony stopped it.
Then they refiled for the same patent just a couple of weeks ago

At least Sony lets you play used games. You may have to pay a small fee for the online component but at least friends who like single player campaigns can play them. Sad on Microsofts part but not nearly as sad all the other components such as always on internet, microphone and camera to make this device into a Snitchbox 720.

Thanks daze. Where was i. Its like i blacked out there talking about demonic consoles. I'll have to find better ways to express my grievances with the new xbox features without using slander, friend. Perhaps ill start by not saying snitchbox while addressing privacy concerns surrounding this periphereal device.

You can still have "used games", by offering a digital rental service(similar to Xbox 360 rental movies), I'm sure they will do this.
