The telltale sign on Indian level of hygiene is their hair..fresh off the plane from India Indians have visible dandruff and a smell I cant describe emanating from their scalp

Chinese and Indians have notideably distinct smells.

Once asked an Indian classmate why they always smelled like curry…. She told me they basically rub curry oil in they hair and on they skin. It all made sense after that.

The actual OP makes sense…spices in oil heated past smoke point definitely leaves a residue over everything. But the bad hygiene is like a multiplier. The smell is worse than the sum of the individual bad smells.
