Yeah, just under 600 years ago. Modern day Istanbul was at the bridge of 2 continents. The same era of Vlad the Impaler aka Count Dracula was roaming around.
Muslim translators, and the north african Moors in Spain who saved western civilization

byzantine was too stagnant. im glad them greeks got that work :whew:

Hard to dip in the middle of a siege breh... Especially in constantinople

Constantinople was probably the goat place to wait out a siege pre-cannon. Access to fresh water supply, I think they could grow their own food and had access to supplies via the sea... Solid fortified walls

They could just chill and :coffee:while the besieging army froze/baked year round on the plains outside until they ran out of resources to pillage in the surrounding countryside

major sea routes between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean.....everyone wanted that location
