Swimming is a thing of access. A lot of grown black men that don't know how to swim is usually due to access. Chad got his boys in swimming classes by 4-5 years old. 
So I took my first swimming lesson at 36

nothing to be ashamed of ... it doesnt take long to learn and its the best exercise you can get
if you are in great shape you can tread water all day. I was always a lazy ass breh so the backstroke was my friend.
learn the butterfly second... thats the easiest to stay afloat ... you dip down but your chest will carry you through the water.
I called it the frog style when I was younger.

stay above the water like a real G, but do the same motion.
you wont swim forward fast at all... but its the easiest in my opinion
your kind of breaking the water under your chest with your hands ... which in turn makes your core float up

Good thing you learned. Nothing to be ashamed of. The whole "Black folks don't know how to swim" talk is fueled from racism. Cacs where doing anything and everything to keep us out of pools.
