If you are complaining about the formula that Black films take. Or you think most black movies aren't good. You owe it to yourself to check this out. It's not just getting good reviews for the fukk of it. It's actually a pretty damn good movie. Subject matter blah blah blah. But if you dig coming of age films. You'll definitely dig this. The cinematography is amazing.

I can't watch movies about black men and gay shyt. Doesn't interest me.

That's cool. and I can dig it. but it's not broke back mountain gay. well it kind of is but its hood gay if that makes sense. They ain't fukking or nothing its not that deep. It's a good movie tho. if you gonna say black people need movies other than "50 shades of dark" or "Menace to Society" then hell...this is a dope film. like I said coming of age. Well shot. all black people.

will never watch a movie about fakkitry. and everyone, op is a scott summers fan, thread is invalidated just off that alone.

edit: but seriously op, is this an all-black film though

Its an all black film. and all the actors are dope as shyt. EVERYONE does there thing. And the biggest thing to me is the fact its like City Of God where the child actor and the adult actor are both great. it's like that.

Just
Probably won a film festival or some shyt like that. Movie couldn't have cost that much to make. Just googled the director and he's 37 don't know if he's gay or not. because the coli. but thats a pretty young age to be up for an oscar.

Film was a play "In the Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue" written by a young black dude (in terms of industry standards) from the projects Liberty City, who is the now head of Theater at Yale. Barry the director (who is straight) is from the same hood as the writer and they grew up a few blocks from each other but never met. The production company A24 got a hold of the story and one of the producers who knew both of them brought them together and made the film for under $5MM, which is super low for the actors they were able to attach beforehand.

This is one of my top 10 films all time and Barry is one of my biggest inspirations as a director. We gotta support the few original stories we have out here...

I haven't watched Moonlight so I can't compare, but why didn't nikkas complain about Omar being gay in the Wire, and deem it unwatchable if one character is that significant?
