:jbhmm: how did your bro get started on his career path?

He started the hard way. Paid his way through CDL school, and went into team driving with his best friend before going solo. He started around the year 2003 so he got his years in. He bought his first truck with the help of my parents around 2005-06. He bought his first house around the same time, sold it a couple years ago and bought a new construction house all cash last year. My other brother was like everyone else, going from job to job looking for something to stick. He was in Ohio working for GE, came back to NYC and worked for a company contracting for NYC DEP making real good money, but got laid off when the company lost the contract. His family was still in Ohio at the time and he went through a rough stretch. He talked to my brother and he moved his family to live with him in Georgia. He's now in trucking getting his first year in and will look for something local or regional with the ultimate goal of owning his own truck.

If you have a plan, and know how to be responsible, you can make a good living. You have to give up a lot your first year, but after that it's a career that will last unless you're a drug addict, alcoholic or accident prone.

How are you using SQL? I have data sets and a full time job dealing with data. But I just can't seem to get around to actually using it in the practical sense. I mainly use Excel and not really MSFT Access. Just installing it on my home computer has been a bytch because I have Win 10 at home and you know how OS and compatibility goes when the latest OS comes out. I may try doing it at work but every time I look to get started a damn client e-mail come thru asking me to do something. I have a good job in a growing industry that's expanding fast, but I am afraid of becoming too complacent that's how you get unemployed and with no consulting opps either cause you ain't up to date with the latest

The thing is we need to be building shyt in Africa before the Chinese get their footing over there.

I first started using lynda.com SQL training which came with a SQL simulation software with Pre built databases , right now I'm studying with Pluralsight IT my next video course is installing SQL Server Express Edition in Server 2008 or 2012

i wouldn't kill myself in your situation.

first thing i would do is start lifting weights. register to a gym and start a weight lifting program that you will follow with discipline. no need to go health crazy but also eat a little cleaner.

also, sit down and write. write why you are unhappy. write what you don't like about your life, what you want to change, write what you want. write why you want it, what will it get you. get to the common denominator. then seperate the list into stuff that just can't be helped (people who passed away, mistakes from the past, etc). and the stuff that you can change. Then you need to make logical plans on how to get what you want with clear measurable objectives and timelines. write it all down.

then slowly, redesign your life and living space, relationships, habits, mental train of thoughts, take all that and redesign/realign them with the sole purpose of supporting these plans that you have. stick to it as much as possible. re-evaluate and retweak whenever you need. forgive yourself and pick yourself up to go even harder after the rare times you slip up.

life isn't that serious breh. i mean it is but it isn't...the fact you have no wife or children to take care of, you might as well go all out and be great. if whatever you've been doing for the last 40 years hasn't been working for you, maybe you should try to switch it up and go a little left with it if only to see what happens.

get your hustle on. learn to find joy in the hustle and grind of it all. pay down your debt if you can and try to be as free as you can (whatever freedom means to you...)

but no i wouldn't kill myself if i were you. I won't even tell you to eliminate fear out your life. But what i will tell you is that you need to stop being your fear's bytch. Good luck breh.

Don't get married brehs

But no seriously, write down a list of goals and use YouTube to learn certifications. The trucking stuff sounds promising too. A lot of good advice on this thread.

Start abusing Adderall, going to the gym everyday, eating healthy, go back to Community College, get a haircut, get on a dating site, go to H&M and start dressing like a grown man, and profit.
