Oprah created the most iconic TV show in daytime history that to this day, is still looked at as the golden standard.

If yall not in America, y'all need to stop speaking on American things that you don't understand cause you sound ridiculous right now.

Oprah is a generational talent, innovative and she both created and carried her show for decades, so much so that she was essentially a kingmaker for Obama in 2008. He directly credits her support for helping him get the votes of white women, who were one of his biggest voting blocs.
Boy you got the wrong one
oprah was an employee that was popular and used that to gain leverage

she’s not Robert Johnson who built from scratch

and who cares about Obama when coli tells me he is irrelevant to black folks?

Its sickening that you know nothing about engineering, but its no surprise why people look up to folks who are controlled by third parties (aka your Lord and Savior Oprah)

to be a good talk show host you gotta he a good facilitator. Its like how in sports a coach prob had a mid/trash career as an athlete BUT their understanding of dynamics that = success are top notch.

like a GOAT comedian may be trash as a host because facilitating people isnt really required, and its a different skill than say controlling the crowd

This. People underestimate how truly multitalented someone like Arsenio Hall was in doing this and also in being able to switch gears in doing movies and tv shows as an actor.

Nick Cannon does not have the range to do this and I have met him in person and he does not have the intelligence needed to do this successfully either.

:russell: I gotta remind myself not to argue with folks with these wild ass takes. Nicca telling me Obama don't matter as if he wasn't the freaking president of the United States. If you was black, you wouldn't need the coli to tell you "what he means to black folks" :mjlol:

Oprah was an employee? She was an employee as much as Johnny Carson, ill give you that. And she's as much an icon as Johnny Carson.

Yall young boys and/or foreigners and/or cacs will never get it. I dont even expect you to. :hhh:

This forum is one odd place.

It's an opinion. I prefer Dj Quik over Dr Dre... Must I grow up in comtpon for my preference to be official.

Not at all. But by that same token, you shouldn't let me explain Miriam Makeba to you when you know more about her than I ever will. And you shouldn't come to me telling me that you know more about black American icons than I do.

It's kinda insulting. I notice a lot of ppl outside of America do that. Because we're the dominant culture and everyone watches America from afar, yall wrongly assume that you know everything that's going on here from a few Google searches and that's not how this works. Y'all think you know more about America than Americans do :deadrose:

But Miriam Makeba was a for the most part a Jazz Vocalist, so if you're a musical head and I have no interest in that music, you could easily know and have a far more nuanced opinion on her than me.

2ndly being South African doesn't give me super powers on Zulu history, Nelson Mandela etc etc matter of fact the best historian I've ever heard on SA history is Dr John Henrik Clarke, the best social thinker on all of Africa and Africans was from Alabama and based in Harlem, Dr Amos N Wilson. (neither of these 2 black AMERICAN men ever set foot in South Africa).

You talk about DOMINANT CULTURE, that's some white Eurocentric world view.

I have had debates with Zulu guys on the Zulu Royal family, Zulu history etc , respectfully.

You think my understanding of black culture is limited to your "dominant black American culture"... Its not.
I have an interest in black people in the Caribbean, Afro Colombia, Haiti, Afro Brazil and many other places that aren't mainstream or "dominant".

I have an opinion on something... A guy in Haiti might disagree with me on Papa Doc, and I could even change my views, but him saying "you're South African you'll never know anything about Haiti" is an odd paradigm to operate from.

Very odd.

Exactly. Instead of this Nick Cannon bullshyt, they should have thrown a bag at Steve to reboot his daytime show.
Why did they take that daytime show from Steve, he's got the perfect attributes for that. And from what I saw his show was very popular with that demographic

exactly, being funny doesn't = controlling conversation. If you look at the good host they have an amazing skill of making people feel comfortable and driving the convo to hit points the people care about. I think podcasts really show you how this is a lost art with how bad many podcast are. This is why politics aside people find Joe Rogan to be 'good'. The guest he has and of course his views are a different discussion.

Had very good numbers so it's still not completely clear. See below.

The Backstory
For those who were wondering why Steve Harvey stopped doing one talk show just to come back with a new one that was essentially the same thing, the answer is simple: contract negotiations. After five seasons of Steve Harvey, Steve’s contract with NBCUniversal Television Distribution ended and he opted not to renew. Instead, he started a new deal with IMG Original Content. In his new deal, Steve had more creative control over the show, a higher salary, and more ownership. While this was great for him, it caused a bit of a rift between IMG Original Content and NBC.

According to an article from Variety that was released when the show was canceled, “The demise of “Steve” raises the question of whether Harvey’s show was a casualty of animosity between NBCUniversal and Endeavor’s IMG Original Content over IMG’s takeover of the show two seasons ago…NBCUniversal executives were furious at losing their stake in Harvey’s show after the transition to IMG, even though it remained the distributor of “Steve.”

The article from Variety also noted, ” for new stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and other major markets to keep Harvey on the air in syndication. “Steve” was also shopped to cable and digital buyers.” Unfortunately, none of those efforts were successful and the show would ultimately be replaced by The Kelly Clarkson Show which has now been renewed through 2023.

Steve’s Reaction
As you can probably guess, Steve Harvey wasn’t thrilled about having his talk show canceled, but he didn’t have any resentment towards Kelly Clarkson for getting his spot. During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Steve said, “You know, I’m a person of faith, so when a door closes for me, I just walk up the hall. It’s more doors,” he continued. “You’ve just got to keep going up the hall. So I open other doors and I’m back on TV and I’m happy for everybody. I like Kelly Clarkson, I’m happy for her.” Steve also went on to launch a digital show on Facebook Live called STEVE on Watch. The show currently has a followin

Gang violence...
Nick is like Oprah, great at networking and dependable to get the job done thus they get bags which accumulate into massive wealth BUT they arent generational talent or innovative where they create and carry things if that makes sense?

like they are good employees but not great creators
this does not describe oprah at all
