They like to denigrate immigrants, but is immigrants who grow your food and process your food, clean your homes and hotels, take care of your sick and elderly and even do your hard thinking. Hell, immigrants are the reason for a positive population growth. Without population growth, we’d be headed the way of Japan.
Picking fruit is not the same as the other jobs you are talking about. Americans are not stopping doing certain work because it is beneath them, it is because the pay is too low for how much profit these companies are pulling in AND cost of living.
If the only way you can survive off of certain labor is by living packed like sardines and in poverty, that is a problem for Americans, much less immigrants. That is the same for Mexican day laborers living 10 deep in a two bed apartment or 10 Indian H1-B wage slaves living in a house on top of each other. Companies would rather get those people because yes they work hard, because if they do not and dont shut their mouths they are being sent back home. I am in I.T. and i have seen how a lot of H1-B Indians get treated because they are cheaper and easy to control since if you lose your job and can't find another one, that is your ass.
Do not add Japan into this because it is a shytty example to use for your argument and only makes changing the system to work for citizens that more preferable. Japan has horrible population growth because they are worked to death, cost of living and cost of children. You fix that, you fix population growth. It is the same here: people are not making enough money, cost of living is skyrocketing and more people not able to get jobs in fields they should of been 20-30 years ago.
For both countries unchecked immigration is not some panacea, it is a method to paper over the cracks that are in our society. Immigration is not the fix for population growth because if all you are doing is bringing in people without fixing the structural issues affecting the country, you are lowering the standard of living and making it worse for everyone.
