Corporate social responsibility (CSR)Well thats communism or socialism according to americans. How dare we demand anything but profit margins for corporations and shareholders.
Im being tongue and cheek but i think we def need a real tough policy that all corporations should work towards building thier workforce and community. No exceptions.
But free market capitalism does not allow that to happen. And we arent exploring any other method. Not even a middle ground. On both sides.
A relatively new concept, and as part of sustainability and strategic efforts to grow brand recognition/reputaion, it makes a lot of sense. But like you describe, people still stuck in old way of thinking. In that a company's only objective is to maximize profits. So naturally, it's not a popular one and I bet, some people out there would even group it in as "woke" and socialism (bozos)
CSR argues that without simultaneously building up the communities in which you operate, you actually reduce profit in the long run. Whether that be by not having the skilled people necessary to design/innovate/operate your brand (into the future), or a reduced market of consumers with the means to buy your product.
The responsibility should fall on the corporation, but i think it's important for the consumers to hold them accountable and place these expectations on them. Nowadays, the consumer is more informed than ever before
