So it sounds like Dr. Ben Carson will be running for president in 2016

I think his point is that while it's an accomplishment, it's not an accomplishment relevant to governance in the way being a lawyer or lower-level politician or whatever might be. It annoys me a little, too, like when stans refer to "Dr." Ron Paul. They pretend it means something for his politics in general, and use it to try and sneak things like anti-choice views under the umbrella of medical expertise.
You sound stupid as fukk.

I think the problem is we have too many lawyers and career politicians, along with businessmen. There is absolutely no true diversity when it comes to professions. Dr. Tyson (I hope you don't feel insulted by calling him Dr.) sums it up:

I understand the point, but I for one am completely fine with mostly lawyers making decisions in regards to law. I doubt anyone's gonna elect the kid that dropped outta high school and has been working at McDonalds the past decade. Having a more diverse group of representatives could have some benefits, but I think these positions in particular should be held by those society has deemed our best and brightest. But sure, why don't more engineers and doctors run? Or are they running but not being elected?

all 23 million miles of useful land
does he have presidential lineage? then he aint coming close
each winner of these staged elections are determined to which candidate have the most blue blood ancestry. remember all these presidents are related some how or another. this is basically the same monarchy they have over in europe, same here. but they give you an illusion, that you have a choice by voting, when you really dont. these cats already have the next puppet set up already even as i write this.

People with a STEM background generally don't have the people skills and leadership skills to be a good politician.

This is a myth. 8 of the 9 members of the Chinese ruling committee are Engineers. Angela Merkel in Germany has a doctorate in Quantum Chemistry. Not to mention many people with STEM backgrounds who run the world's most powerful and successful companies (Microsoft: Engineer, Apple: Engineer, Facebook: Computer Scientist, Amazon: Engineer/Computer Scientist, Tesla Motors: Physics, ExxonMobil: Engineer and many others)

Kind of odd that tech and engineering companies would have stem backgrounds as their heads. I wonder if that is industry specific.

:shaq2:

They are successful are they not? Being in charge of those companies, some of the world's biggest, would surely require some people skills and leadership skills I would assume. I may be wrong.
