I think some Black people take on an alter ego or persona to fuel their success. I have a homie like this too, he was heavy on that pro-Black steez in college but once he graduated, started making money, read some self help get rich books --- total 180. He voted for Trump in 2016 lol. But he ain't completely went off the rails, he still knows he's a brotha and mainly dates Black women. He just had to take on characteristics to get him focused on the goals he wanted to accomplish in Amerikkka. I understand that some Black people see it as their only way to succeed and defeat all the racism and discrimination we deal with going after the bag. I couldn't do it tho.
