I used to think this was the greatest city in the world. That was in 1990 - 1993. I moved away for work and couldn't wait to get back here when I retired. Well I came back and bought a house right off the bat. Big mistake. The city has changed so much in the years gone by and I truley hate it here. When I left ,the city ended at Bell road and was a clean "town". Now it doesn't end and is very dirty and ridden with crime. Mexico has invaded us which is good or bad depending. The part that is not right is that they don't want to learn english and they turn the neighborhoods into "little Mexicos". They have made the push clear up to Bell and east into Scottsdale and just keep on marching north. I don't think it will stop til the whole valley is ruined. The drive by shootings are something to be proud of and the demonstrations enough to make you want to go Postal. I live in Black Canyon City so it's not bad yet but it will be. I'm just waiting for some ******* to buy my house and I'm outa here, if my wife will let me. Good luck if you move here. Personally I wouldn't want to raise a pet rat let alone a child here.

PS: Do yourself a favor and rent for a year or two before you buy. That way you won't be stuck trying to sell a house when you decide you have had enough.

I plan on moving to AZ sometime in the next 2 years. I don't mind living around white people. Honestly, in my experiences, I've gotten along better with them and can usually relate really easily with them. I want to learn some spanish though before I go out there though. Living out here in ATL and broke, is no fun. If i get my shyt together, west it is. Cali, NV, AZ, TX (is it true you don't pay income tax in texas?!??!.....wow, talk about banking!!!)

Scottsdale is one of the most expensive places to live in the country. Phoenix is liberal compared to the surrounding areas, but don't expect to get treated well by the law enforcement there. Read up on Sherrif Joe Arpaio, and I would not be trying to move ANYWHERE where it's legal for the cops to stop me and ask me for my papers and throw me in jails of 3rd world conditions

They got a good art scene and some cheap housing in some sections, but majority of blacks live in poor areas along with the Latinos and the Indians. (Arizona got a big native peoples population) And you know what they do in these neighborhoods, they build their fukking plants and asphalt factories and dump their chemicals and shyt in the water and blow smoke there. The black hood in Phoenix is one of the most prevalent CANCER CLUSTERS in the country because they let their companies dump shyt all over the black people.

It is incredibly racist, and i love my people but i would not live in a hood where I could get cancer if I was coming to that community. You are better off moving into one of the growing artist hippy districts, but be prepared to have police on your ass. It is entirely legal for the sherrif to just order police cars parked outside your door and even if it isn't, they aren't going to throw him in the bushes.

And I want the brehs opinions? It will give me big clout within the company I work for and would actually get my foot and the career I want (IT) but I don't know squat about the city. All I know it has a 8.0% african american population and its really expensive out there to stay. Ill only be making about 35k moving out and I don't want to be a frivolous situation. Any knowledge of where to stay,people,food,nightlife,and environment over there?

I'm an otr trucker right now, but I have an opportunity to make 2k a week in Phoenix, I'll be home every night and get 2 days off a week.

I've actually been a few times but I know living and visiting are two different animals.

I get great value for the money I earn..I can't really name another place where the ratio is as strong

But to OP I've visited a few times had a friend that lived out there. It was okay just really depends on your type of personality and if you're okay with hanging around mostly whites/mexicans dating them, and don't really need a young black professional crowd then you may be alright. You said you only plan on staying a year so you probably not worried about schools (for kids) or home prices.
