I've had an affinity for foreign languages since I was a child. French was the first language I ever wanted to learn but it was too difficult for me. Since Spanish is so accessible in the States, I've been picking up vocabulary since childhood and then when I took it in school. I learned basic grammar and sentence structure in middle school. I didn't mess with Spanish again until I was 27 years old but I still had a lot of the info on my brain so I decided to try to bcome fluent. I bought books and used the internet and started studying the language on my own..... I'm the same age as you. I would say that I'm a high intermediate level speaker.

It's been a bit of a struggle but one well worth it.
