The thing I learned from all this is that humans in the 21st century are absolute scum, bottom of the barrel. People alive today are probably the weakest and softest humans since the beginning of recorded history. Not an ounce of character and moral fibre.
When you get an order from the state at a time of crisis, you're supposed to just shut up and obey. Set aside any reservations you may have and just do what is asked of you for the greater good. At a time of crisis the greater good is the most important thing, it's far more important than individual freedoms and civil and constitutional rights and whatever else. It's not a normal situation, it's a fukking crisis. The important thing is to ride it out and emerge unscathed on the other side, and then we can have the normal freedoms and rights restored.
Humanity has understood this throughout our entire history, up until the 21st century. People got this even as recently the 20th century. In the World Wars.
In the second World War in Britain they had strict curfews, they had food rationing, they had fuel rationing. They even had light rationing. You literally weren't allowed to light your house at night, it was illegal because if you lit up your house, and your whole street lit their lights, and the whole neighbourhood did the same, and the whole city did the same, then the Wehrmacht, the Nazi Air Force, would know exactly where to drop their bombs. If everything stayed dark then they would just be guessing. There was no satellite navigation or GPS or guided missiles back then. You only knew where you were as a pilot by looking out the window. You dropped your bomb on a target only if you had a visual on the target. No light, no visual.
Civil rights, constitutional rights, and individual freedoms are luxuries. They mean nothing when your country is under attack by an enemy. The people must come together and agree to suspend those rights and freedoms until the crisis is past and until you've won the war.
Britain would never have won the war if its people didn't make those enormous sacrifices for the greater good. Yes they got a lot of help from the USSR and the USA. But that help would have counted for nothing if the citizens ignored the government rules, if they failed to obey all the restrictions that were asked of them. It was a collective social effort of sacrifice, because they understood that the situation was so serious that freedoms had to be suspended.
Imagine today's generation in the second World War. We would be fukking pathetic. There would be millions of protestors ignoring every single government order because of MuH FrEeDoMs. Every fukking light would be turned on. There would be millions of people saying the war is a hoax. There would be millions more saying it's a government conspiracy. Etc.
If Hitler had to fight 2021 humanity he would conquer the whole world in a couple of weeks, just like coronavirus did. We can't even wear masks and get injections, we can't even make the most basic and easy sacrifices for the greater good. Imagine us dealing with rationing and with not being allowed to light up our houses.
