usually in rap you know the dudes on top are writing their own verses from scratch.

Big, X, Jay, Em, 50, Wayne etc.

Ye was the really the first rap superstar who openly had writers but you know he was producing most of his records.

people thought Drake's talent was song writing and crafting catchy songs, if he cant even do that by himself then his competition now becomes Beyonce, Bieber and Rihanna instead of rappers.

Right except your expectation doesn't dictate greatness. The holy trinity of music is; Sound, image and flow (or cadence if you will), no one cared that Elvis didn't write his own songs, because people enjoyed the image, they always do. Only in rap is writing(or no writing in some cases) your own song focused on by purists. Rock, R&B, etc...no one really cares about who wrote, its more about who performed it the best. Great performers will always outshine lyrical ability, and if you have both....you get Kendrick, which makes sense.

Ultimately will don't really know if the legends wrote their own stuff or not, what I mean by that is we can never be 100% so why bother? They're still gonna sell albums and guys like Drake will still be on top.
