This thread proves how confused this site is when it comes to latinos

My mother and her 3 sisters have A.O.C's complexion more or less while her 5 brothers are all dark skinned dominicans. My grandfather was dark skinned and my grandmother has a Redbone complexion. If you see all their grandchildren, they range from light to dark.

That's literally the majority of dominican families, we are a mix of 3 different groups of people and it shows. Thats why a lot of dominicans just call themselves DOMINICAN and not black.

It doesn't mean they deny having dark skin, or our african roots. But we don't separate ourselves by skin color the way people in the United States do and that shyt drives ya nuts on this site. We are proud of our unique identity/culture and independence as a country. You go to D.R and it's just a mix of colors living amongst themselves rich/poor doesnt matter. No segregation, no racial inequality none of that bullshyt as much as ppl like to think

Puerto ricans have the same racial make up as dominicans , they dna just leans a bit harder into their European genes than their African gene. I guarantee A.O.C Is at least 15-30% when it comes to her african genes.

But that's just one spectrum of latinos. Then you have Mexicans. Mexicans and Dominicans/ricans have nothing in common genetic wise, we only share the same language and thats why we are under the latino/hispanic umbrella

This shyt is way more complex than just black and white

The H
i’m confused how can a person whom the overwhelming majority of their ethnic background be Caribbean - can be considered white
Carribean or no Carribean, plenty of White Cubans buck that trend. Ted Cruz mentioned above, is one.

There is no "Brown" "Race". Hispanics weren't calling themselves "Brown" or saw themselves as some distinct "Brown" race 60 plus years ago.
Mexicans would always say Brown Pride. Don't know about PRs though.

On the Carribean coast of Mexico. Many have as much as 20% of more African ancestry. They just don't know it, or too ignorant to recognize it. Genetically, Dominicans carry a ton of Spanish, which Mexicans do too. One leans more Native than the other, while the other leans more black. The Spanish gene pool is more than just language.

Wait, so when y'all see AOC you see a white woman?
AOC is not “white”.
:mjlol:

She’s a majority Indigenous Taino Latina, obviously with a few drops of European blood.

Now, is she a Coconut Tia Juana? That could be debated.

Absolutely. But then I’ve always found “Hispanic” or “Latino” a bit messy and confusing. Doesn’t mean we can pretend there isn’t a racial caste within those who identify as such. It’s the unfortunate reality. Maybe not as prevalent among Dominicans and Puerto Ricans, but definitely in countries like Cuba and Brazil. Doesn’t mean we need to start calling people who look like AOC “white” though.

What's wild is in 20 years, it won't even be a question of whether or not women that look like her are white, the same way we don't bother splitting hairs for Italians or Irish here in the states. They're white.
:stopitslime: Bruh aren’t your from New Orleans? You of all people should know how complicated this can get.
