There is nothing new here for russians. They crushed sunni militants and civilians in Chechenya and Daguestan a few years ago.
Can someone tell me what this means?
IMO Putin thought he was clowning the US buy getting into Syria and countering our support for the rebels. Obama was smart not to get himself bogged down in another military commitment. Looks like Putin might have to deal with an insurgency or risk Assad dealing with anti-government terrorism on his own that could destabilize the government the way a direct rebellion coudln't

It doesn't change anything. You think Sunni militants care about a "backyard" ? For them, it's the same thing : it's their land and russians are killing their people. Jihadism is an internationalism. Back then, like today, money was already coming from Saudi Arabia.
Russia have seen worse when it comes to terror attacks. People seem to forget that Russia is itself a country with a HUGE muslim population. In the 80's, russians diplomats were already being targeted by militants. Look at what happens in Lebanon in 1985. Russians are going to be pissed by this, but it's not a surprise for them. When you go to the Middle East, you know this type of shyt come with the territory.

I don't know how to feel, Russia got involved in their thing without an invitation and they went at one of theirs. If anything I'll give them a little dap for going at one of Putin's guys and not civilians.
