Its not as cut and dry as that...

Plus it's a lot of incorrect info floating around since dob for most players aren't even available, I think.

It plays a small role probably just from a comfort in the system and discipline standpoint but it's not the sole or even top 2-3 reasons by any means.

This has nothing to do with age and it’s all about coaching. You give Cignetti Ohio States talent he’s likely in the same position

Average age thing you been seeing of Indiana is fake
I think it’s the age of the starters that is high. FWIW they have like a 30 year old punter that skews the number a bit.

It does make sense though, in terms of experience and physicality you’d rather have a 23 year old than a 20 year old.

You see the same deal in CBB. It’s difficult to win with true freshman no matter how good they are

First off.. what Cig is doing is fukkin insane. And this is not to take anything away from the man. But I took 15 minutes to look this up for myself, becasue I've heard conflicting reports.

This is Indiana's starting lineup. Anyone thinking that age/experience doesn't mean anything is crazy. There's experience and then there's full grown ass men.

QB - Mendoza (22 years old)
RB - Hemby 23 (almost 24)
WR1 - Sarratt 22 (almost 23)
WR2 - Williams Jr. 24
WR3 - Cooper 23
TE - Nowakoski 23
LT -Smith 21
LG - Evans 23
C - Coogan 23
RG - Lynch 21
RT - Ajani 20

DE - Kamara 24
NT - Tucker 24
DT - Landino 21
'Stud' - Ndukwe 20
WLB - Hardy 20
MLB - Fisher 22
CB1 - Sharpe 22
CB2 - Ponds 22
NB - Boykin 23
SS - Moore 24 (about to be 25)
FS - Ferrell 20

I left out special teams cause the punter alone would flaw this whole thing.

Average age: 22.136 years old.

There's not one single teenage starter on their whole roster.

You can't say it doesn't help them.

This has always been true.

Older, talented teams usually win In collegr.

I think this is how college football will change

Sure you will still get the freshman that can be first year starters but transfer portal is where you get the experienced guys to fill out a championship roster.

Crazy thing is....these recent examples aren't even really indicative of the "portal portal portal" rhetoric that gets pushed. When scum did what they did*, they retained a bunch of their in-house upperclassmen. When da Gawdeyes did what they did, we focused on retention of our upperclassmen---supplemented with a couple GUYS like Q and Caleb.

And even with IU currently doing what they're doing, I mean, it's portal because Cignetti had to bring them over from JMU, lol, but...

They bought a lot of JMU dudes who they technically recruited out of high school, so it's essentially homegrown players for Cignetti too.

And then they too supplemented with a few extra key pieces with dudes like Mendoza etc. Mfs still gonna have to do some developing and evaluating.

The only period when younger teams won in college football was in the 90s and early aughts, but historically upper class man teams wins.

Focusing on age is wrong

focus should be on the money spent
