See..this makes no sense to me...someone with extensive knowledge on jazz and p funk may not think it's that impressive..honestly I would think it would be more impressive to beginner listeners in those genre's...I love those genre's and think the album is dope but I can see how and why people might not like it...it's not flawless...

Other way around though, my father is a jazz musician, I grew up on jazz and I thought this album was impressive... and at the same time, I see all these jazz heads and artists saying this album is brilliant

Someone with extensive knowledge on jazz and pfunk will tell you that this album is actually brilliant.

But the thing is...this album is very raw, very raw. I have to go back to the 60s if I want to compare the jazz elements of this album to other goat jazz albums.

T Martin was definitely influenced by Duke Ellington.

No it sounds like a Hip-Hop album with some funk, soul and jazz elements.

I swear motherfukkers on this site have never listened to Common, The Roots, De La Soul, Q-Tip, Dilla, Madlib etc.
They haven't...and thats why Kendrick is being overpraised right now :sas2:

I'm not sure how a black person that should've grown up on Funk and Soul music wouldn't like TPAB...

Black people don't really grow up on Rock, so that makes Yeezus a harder listen...

Y'all need to get to y'all roots and throw on some Gap Band and P-Funk...

:patrice:

Same way some nikkas that grew up on 90's rap don't vouch for Joey Baddaz, imitations aren't that impressive. I would readily listen to the genres of music Kendrick was trying to experiment with, I just don't like him in that context.

As for this being Yezus, the only reason to compare is because both are "experimental". TPAB is much better than that shyt, but the idea that it's GOAT album in 48 hours is ridiculous.

except that kendrick wasn't just imitating. he also invited all these goat musicians and it wasn't just an imitation. It was organic music

thats why joey badass didn't have the acclaim kendrick had... the composition isn't the same.

those praising the kendrick album as a 10/10 actually mentioned those influences. Just because you were influenced by someone doesn't mean you ain't making better music than this guy.
the roots, q-tip.. albums are hella dope, but the composition on these albums are nowhere near as good as the composition on TPAB.

I don't know about that composition shyt, it didn't have the acclaim because it's not as good. Point being as an older cat I appreciate the throwback but can't really invest myself into it.

I liked the idea of Joey Badass more than I liked a whole album of his.

And I disagree about the music being especially organic for the simple fact that HE sounds out of place to me.

"Alright" is the most organic sounding song on the album to me, it stays true to the content of the album, has the technical execution that I became of a fan of Kendrick for and doesn't sound derivative. Had there been more joints like that I would have enjoyed the album more.

No he hasn't listen to the album :heh:

you're right. I'm skipping this the same way I've skipped Blue Sky Paradise, Drake's mixtape and Mr Wonderful. I don't have to go out of my way to listen to trash releases from wack artists just to give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm tired of that shyt.

If you're wack, you're wack. And if you're really popular or mentioned in a good light by people I respect, I'm gonna end up listening to your shyt anyway.

Every track I've heard off TPAB has been TRASH. not even decent. I thought GKMC was weak but TPAB is on a whole other level of garbage.

Here's what I've heard so far:

I
U
Alright
Blacker the berry
King Koonta
Wesley's Theory
How Much a Dollar Cost
Mortal Man

and the only reason I checked them out was because K Dot stans swore those tracks were classic. I've never heard these songs played by anyone or even shared on Facebook since the album came out.

shyt is Duckzus

Except that yeezus wasn't appreciated like that by people

Kendrick's album isn't just acclaimed by critics, its also the highest rated on sites that only care about users ratings (RYM, etc)
what in the hell is a music critic.
