The blood shyt as far as NYC is concerned, was never supposed to go past the 8-9 original members, because the more nikkas you let in, the more watered down shyt gets.
It was a couple nikkas ridin under some shyt that sounded cool, who's name came from the "60 year old, old nikkas" that was more than likely on some Vietnam war vet shyt.
And that's what happened.
Once it spread, it went out to the city where you eventually had Mexican rappers talkin that Gangsta shyt and making that shyt look silly.
Shout to breh though, he's an interesting character, and I know he's official no matter what he claims (he said several times "when I was a blood")
I'd love to sit down and burn one with him.

The point is you and the other brother were wrong, most of the gang following culture still mimicked Cali gang culture, but the NYB culture has a definite influence and presence up and down the eastern seaboard, and even into some neighboring states...

Never bro, and I've said the same thing and told this story before. I remember being in prison in NC as a teenager and hearing that NYB basically was anti-Cali. The thing here is this was spoken of by people who were riding the culture in NC, but weren't from NY. I encountered some gang issues in MC but nobody was anti-Cali, and when nikkas who didn't necessarily like me spoke, they'd say shyt like, "in NY you'd have to roll it up, they ain't jacking Cali style"...
I went to Upstate NY 1½ years after my release and stayed up there for 1½ years, and anybody who knows Upstate know its flooded with City nikkas. Even putting to the side that some of my best relationships were with affiliated cats from the Bronx (as well as non affiliates from the other boroughs), when I met NYers pushing the culture, it was no different than when I went to Atlanta, or NC. Cats always want to know and talk about gang shyt #1, they wanna know what it's really like in California, and #2 they always want the plug lmao...
I got a little longwinded but my point is I agree with you, offline nobody has ever disparaged Cali culture the way you see online, and when cats used to "warn" me about going to NY as a Californian, that shyt turned out to have 0% truth whatsoever...
