Man I love this movie but always thought it was one of the few that actually needed to be longer. It jumped from struggling to them planning a bank heist in like 5 minutes. The ending is cool, if anything the Vietnam portion drags a bit. Obvious the studio interfered and longer non biopic movies started to become more regular around that time anyway (Casino and Heat came out a couple months later).

The movie is really depressing.
That said, in the true story who the movie was based on dude did his time, started a movement in the prisons and eventually became a community leader when he got out.
The movie is based on acts, but I honestly think if they included him making the best of it then Disney would’ve let the movie run long and would’ve got some serious traction for award season.
Like someone said, they weren’t going for that though.
