We not even gon talk about how that platform redeemed guerilla games and turned them into a first rate studio that developed the decima engine which makes death standing and it's sequel look fukkin INSANE. Or the insanity that was FREE Playstation online services or how it introduced millions of people to home media servers.

It was a fukking BEAST and if Sony is smart, the ps 6 will have a disc model that let's you play the full ps1-5 catalog via emulation. If you have enough processing power to make that shyt to make that happen, you've already beaten the ps4 and 5 in value.

They lost to Xbox that gen sonny boy, but with that said? Yeah, it was their best run of giving you games. They had STIFF competition and had to produce just to stay afloat. Almost went bankrupt at one point. What Sony gamers seem to ignore is the fact that when Sony is in a position of dominance is when they try to rip off its customers the most. Also Nostalgia be whipping y'all asses. The first few years of PS3 were ROUGH. Multiplatform games ran noticeably worse, online functionality was undercooked compared to 360, controllers didn't have rumble for a while like come on lol. It definitely finished strong because Sony were pretty much fighting for their lives during that time.

That pressure doesn't exist anymore to push them to pump out games. A lot of people disagreeing with me wont break down their reasoning so I'll give you credit for trying.

Sony's studios are not pushing a bunch of games because of development times. AAA games take on average 4 to 7 years to create compared to 2 to 4 years in previous generations. Their studios changed from a minimum of 2 or 3 games per generation to 1 or 2 because of this. The exception being Insomniac. Not only that, COVID delayed these games by 1 to 3 years, along with games being cancelled resulting in some studios skipping this generation or releasing near the end of this generation. Even without any competition, the amount of games being pushed out next generation and the rest of this generation will depend on the development times their studios will need along with the way the scope of these studios change.

Next generation, I expect there will be more ps6 exclusives compared to the ps5 in the same amount of time due to no COVID, their new studios, possible new studio acquisitions, the scope of their studios changing , the Playstation Hero Project, 2nd party exclusives, and 3rd party exclusives, especially with XDev. I also expect their developers to start working on ps6 exclusives years before the release of the ps6, with no COVID to delay their releases since they will be using pcs that target the specs of the ps6 before they receive dev kits. The first five years of the ps5 would have been packed were there no COVID.
As soon as their developers complete their newest ps5 game, they will begin or continue production on their new ps6 game.

Despite all that, the ps5 has a good amount of exclusives, counting cross gen and games also on pc with the disappointment being not enough exclusives exclusive to the ps5, even being on pc as well, that show what the ps5 can do in terms of gameplay. That's already changing starting with this year and will continue for the rest of this generation and into the ps6 generation.
