The Roots reboot has already cultivated an A-List roster with Forest Whitaker, Anna PaquinandLaurence Fishburne signing on, but they're keeping the star power going by adding Mekhi Phifer, T.I.and Matthew Goode to the project, A&E announced Thursday.

Phifer will pay Jerusalem, a mute slave who is more than what he appears to be. Tip "T.I." Harris has landed the role of a headstrong slave named Cyrus who fights for the Union Forces.

Laurence Fishburne to star in Roots remake

James Purefoy was also added to the cast as Virginian slave owner John Waller, who buys the slave protagonist Kunta Kinte (Malachi Kirby). Goode will play Waller's more educated brother, Dr. William Waller. Lane Garrison will appear as "volatile, unpredictable Confederate officer and slave owner" Frederick Murray.

Other additions include Emayatzy Corinealdi as Kunta Kinte's wife Belle and G. Hannelius as Waller's daughter Missy.

The miniseries is an original take on Alex Haley's novel Roots: The Saga of an American Familycombined with new research. ABC first aired a Roots miniseries in 1977 starring LeVar Burton andJames Earl Jones. It will premiere in 2016, simulcast on A&E, HISTORY and Lifetime channels.

I hate sh!t like this. :snoop:

Of all the starving young Black actors out there- from NYC to L.A.,

Chicago to St. Louis, and all points in between, whose life passion has been theater/acting,

who've put everything they have into honing this craft, who take trips across the country with their last pennies just to audition for small time roles-

you, as producer, go and cast some half-acting ass rapper or pro athlete just for the 'star power'? :dahell:

And hey, to their credit, it works every time. It brings views and rakes in the big bucks at the box office. :manny:
But I hate it.. We may never, ever, discover our next Morgan Freeman or Samuel L Jackson or Angela Bassett, because of this practice of casting a "big name" over "big talent" that's been going on since the 90's. :snoop:

I am disappointed and disgusted at the liberties with which you have taken with my name. I disregard this "Toby" alias you have bestowed upon me and demand that you reconsider my original assertion that you henceforth refer to me as Kunta :tipls:
