My grandma had a place like this. It was clean and smelled fantastic. Cow dung floors are dust free and also insect repellent plus good at temp regulation.

I knew a guy that used this to floor his sheds. After it dries, it doesn't smell at all. And given the extremely toxic shyt we use in construction and spray around with reckless abandon, I don't think it's that bad.
I'd rather smell cow dung than lacquer.
