Gun shop owner says Zimmerman was never hired to provide security, despite his claims to cops
ORLANDO, Fla. (CBS/AP) -- The manager and owner of a Florida business are denying reports that George Zimmerman has been hired to provide security for their business.
DeLand police report that two officers approached Zimmerman - who was acquitted of murder last summer in the shooting death of teenager Trayvon Martin - after midnight Sunday when he and his dog were spotted parked behind Pompano Pat's motorcycle and gun store in Volusia County.
Zimmerman told officers the owner had given him permission to be there and asked him to provide security after a recent burglary. Officers attempted to confirm but were unable to reach the owner. No citations were issued.

followed by dashcam video of when Deland police encountered Zimmerman in
the shop's parking lot.
Pompano Pat's manager Sam Porter said Tuesday that Zimmerman "in no way, shape or form" has been employed by the store.
"George has a good heart," Porter told the Orlando Sentinel. "We were broken into about two and a half weeks ago and had some guns stolen, so I think he took it upon himself to try to help the owner."
The Sentinel reports Zimmerman would watch over the store after hours from his pickup truck, according to Porter.
Pat Johnson, who owns the store, told CBS affiliate WKMG that Zimmerman, acting on his own accord, has occasionally been outside the store since the robbery. He said that although he knows Zimmerman, he has not hired him as a security officer.
According to Johnson, the thieves stole rifles worth up to $5,000 and two mini-bikes.
