So Verizon just offered me a "Free" Google Pixel Pro for a 3 year contract, is it a scam?

Is it a scam? . Do I have to pay the full $1000 after the 36 months?

You have to sign up for the Verizon Unlimited Ultimate plan and lock in for the full 36 months.

That plan is $65 a month. Not sure what plan you have now, but if it's not that then it would be a price increase.


The $1000 credit is applied monthly to your bill, so if you pay off the phone early, you will stop getting the credit and eat whatever you had remaining.

I just got a free Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra about a month ago from Verizon. No contract. Only had to pay a $40 upgrade fee. I just got my S23 Ultra just 2 years ago and I planned to keep it for a good 5 years, but free is free

It might be worth it. I bought my own phone and have a prepaid, unlimited plan for like $50 a month. If I wanna reduce it for a few months to like $35, I can. I don’t always need unlimited data. I don’t like the idea of a contract.

Only locked in with Verizon for 3 years or you pay the remainder you owe for the phone if you want to switch carrier.

Verizon has a 60 day unlock policy for any phone you buy from them. Even financed phones are unlocked 60 days from activation.

I just did the same thing with AT&T. Usually buy my phones straight up. But I was looking to upgrade anyway and I wasn't planning on leaving AT&T as service. So it's a no brainer. They were giving the 256GB one for free and I just paid the extra $3 for the 512GB version. I can stick with this one for 3 yrs or just pay off the remainder in 2 if something catches my eye

Yes if you leave early you end up paying the phone. They are banking on you either leaving early, wanting to upgrade within three years to Pixel 11/12/13, breaking/losing your phone, or just simply staying longer than the 3 years.


It's not a huge scam or anything, but I don't see the big advantage. I always buy my phones outright unlocked (maybe go a generation back), then look for the best no contract deal. But I don't care too much about keeping up with new phones. I have a Pixel right now and don't care about the 10.

I got my S25 Ultra this way because I don't intend to leave Verizon anytime soon, my S22 Ultra's battery was going ass and I didn't feel like dropping $1300. I could have gone for a cheaper new phone and be free but I wanted that flagship power

So I went back and looked at the text I received. I also had another text in that thread about upgrading to the Google Pixel on a 3 year contract, but the S24 Ultra I got for free was not under any contract. The S23 Ultra that I upgraded from was paid for so I wonder if that had anything to do with it (even though I bought it off Amazon).
