Is she of East African/South Asian parentage? His wife is mixed race like the lead actress. Her name is Prema.. which is Indian. The lead actress is also mixed race, albeit lighter skinned.

A woman who looks nothing like his wife... The message being that people who look like his wife are not attractive...
To some degree, the success of past Will Smith movies could have played a roll in his casting... But the last 3 or 4 Will Smith movies flopped...
He is not a box office gurantee... There are more things at work here than just :" it's a logical choice"
They keep selling and you keep buying... And uoeno
I agree with some of your post... I think we should support Dr. Omalu but I also think we should be fed up with the way we are portrayed and create our own

So you're claiming that his casting has to do with colorism and not the fact that Will Smith is a box office draw? Ok.![]()

Part of his casting was because he was a non intimidating, "safe," token Black man.
Not that he was the best man for the role...
He is acceptable to white people's palate...
And that is laughable to you![]()
Is she of East African/South Asian parentage?
Do you not see the difference between different mixes? Or how half white is favored in mainstream media?
Does it not still follow the media practice of casting a light complected woman of African descent in a role regardless of whether the actual woman was medium/dark or not appear of largely significant Euro descent in appearance?

You are being obtuse.
So you are saying the likes of Denzel, David Oyelowo, Ejiofor et al haven't been cast in similar roles?
What makes Will Smith agreeable to the sensibilities of white audiences in your estimation?
Yes, his wife is discernably of mixed parentage herself. So would you have cast a black actress instead of Gugu Mbatha-Raw or a dark-skinned woman of mixed heritage? Where is the line drawn exactly? There are limited black roles in Hollywood as it stands and you color struck folks are complaining about black actors getting roles because they are a different complexion from the source character.
They got Scandinavians playing black Egyptians and y'all are complaining about this.
Who draws the line on which whitewashing we should be concerned about?
We should only concern ourselves when white people are cast to play Black people?

If it wasn't for Will Smith this would be another straight to DVD movie like Cuba Gooding/Ben Carson "Gifted Hands"
So how are they still getting roles? You are actually being obtuse...
Those actors may have been... Hollywood has a tendency of casting based off of hue instead of acting talent

Why don't you blame Dr. Bennet Omalu. His Nigerian right? Why didn't he allow Nollywood to produce his life movie?![]()
So how are they still getting roles?
This delusion that you are pandering does not exist with black male actors. Wesley Snipes was the biggest black male actor on the planet at one point. Eddie Murphy was the biggest black entertainer not named Michael Jackson at one point as well. This is more peculiar with black female actresses where their lighter-skinned counterparts are favored for the roles. Will Smith's success doesn't have anything to do with his complexion. You are color-struck.
