It's a 2 way argument. How can :myman: play light skinned Malcolm X WITH NO ARGUMENT OR HESITATION FROM BLACK WOMEN, but Will Smith a problem with playing a Nigerian doctor? :martin:

Sounds like something deeper is at play. :mjpls:

Just cause he smashed white women in Focus, still got yall  as hell, still. Forget about his black wife, his contributions to numerous black organizations, or his groundbreaking sitcom of the 90s, it means nothing since he smashed some non black women on acreen.

You are grasping at straws

It's a combination of it all but the blatant whitewashing is the big problem. Even though Will Smith is Black, he's no where close to Dr. Omalu's complexion... I am surprised that they didn't put him in blackface and prosthetic nose like they did Zoe

See above

And we have passively accepted it for far too long. This is not the role of a sex symbol falling in love...In my opinion, it is ridiculous to use Will Smith to represent a portly, dark skinned African scholar

Will Smith is black so I don't see how that is white washing.
Unless you think that light skin black people are white?

I do agree that Will Smith does not resemble Dr. Omalu in any way shape or form. So the casting could have been better 100% agree. If they were making a movie for Capone, they wouldn't cast a 6'5 150lb twig, they could get someone fat and short. Casting could have been much better.

But Will Smith isn't white, so by definition this is not whitewashing.

If you want to see Whitewashing, look at Gods of Egypt.

Fair enough... Lightwashing

You are telling a story about NFL negligence...

Hell you could have used Forrest Whitaker who is the same age range and more of a physical match, and still had box office success

There is no legit reason to go with Will Smith for this role....

Put a dollar value on colorism brehs...

I hope those dollars are worth it
Broooooo
....I literally thought forest was the perfect person for the role

The only thing that should matter is if they portray the man in a correct manner. They got Will Smith because he is one of the biggest black actors, plain and simple.

Agree with the OP butI think Idris would:ve had projects he was already signed on for. But the others may have been available.
