This sh1t has always sounded impossible, as a fellow dart thrower myself the sh1t is impossible!! It be toilet water rhymes anyway here it is from another source ...

(first 2.00min)

Just add this to the long list of eye witnesses who have seen BIG writing and most of his collabos he went home to record never syncing with the rappers meaning he went home to write. Jay is the same violator ...

I mean even if you don't write it down on paper they could've spent an hour or all day coming up with the rhymes in their head, they weren't just walking in the booth freestyling a verse in one take for 5 minutes that's where people get it confused, most rappers just punch in these days and don't write anything down but they be in the booth forever.

Basically this. People misperceive what it actually means. Not writing a verse down is not the same thing as freestyling. To me and even when I've done it, "not writing" a verse is the easier and lazier way as opposed to writing it because you're forced to focus more on rhyme scheme and delivery for memorization purposed as opposed to content and clarity.

Very few songs I can remember hearing that include an actual "freestyled" verse. Maybe bits and pieces of it (KRS on "1, 2 pass it", Nas on "Life is Like a Dice Game" come to mind).

Personally. I couldn't do that.

To make up a good verse and keep it in my head all day perfectly? With the correct cadence? That's tough.

I've forgot so many dope rhymes telling myself I gotta write them down but don't within a day.

That's why I constantly write inspired rhymes in my phone all the time.

Nice.

It must be the young heads who misconstrue the difference in free-styling and saying you do not use a pen and paper when crafting multi platinum rhymes

That fairy-tale is getting exposed by the day, only weak rappers spitting weak rhymes can say they do not use pen and paper like a boast but Jay and Big crafted those dope bars using a pen and paper like all our fav MCs.

People have romanticized this shyt to ridiculous levels. Writing in your head is not as hard as people make it seem. Anyone can do it. Now will you rhyme as good as Jay or Big? Probably not because they became good for different reasons

People today have really bad memories because we've outsourced so much of our memorization abilities to technology. The first piece of technology to diminish our memory was books

Before books were invented and mass distributed we often had to memorize huge chunks of information. We still have this ability and the techniques are publicly available but our brains have atrophied regarding this skillset

Pure knowledge we should call you 'Science God'.

I highlighted the part there about not being as good as Big or Jay even Big and Jay would be miles more potent if they wrote which I believe they do and has been proven. The sh1t Jay said on 'lyrical exercise' about memorizing 2 bars at a time doesn't even make sense lol. They have great memory though but pen and paper is your best works.

Beans said Jay took his pen and paper from him one day when he was writing in the studio and said do it without it lol. We all know Beans fell off at a time and now we can trace it. I dont even believe in music the technique should be applauded just the end result. It's not a cooking show and so many rappers Lil Wayne even back when SP fell off he was going round talking bout not using a pen and paper.

I prefer effort over nonchalant art. No pen and paper doesn't make you any more sonic booming to me.

But the sh1t I quoted in red though, that was powerful :wow:

It's not impossible or even hard to do. Some people write that way out of necessity, not a flex. My handwriting is horrible, probably due to ptsd so that was the easiest way for me to go about it.

Similar to how nikkas punch in every line...you just do the same thing, in your head until you have a verse or if you're skilled enough memory wise a whole song. What people are marveling at is the memory aspect.

Even Jay who turned it into a flex didn't start doing it because it was cool, but because he was on the move and would forget the lines before he could get a chance to write them down. He just started memory banking things that came to him til he could memorize a song at a time.
