i've said it was a lie for over 20 years. It's always been a lie. Jay and Big were professionals. They'd show up with their lyrics ready while adding in a name or 2 to make it seem like they just wrote it. No way a mf sitting there for 2 hours writing a song in their head and just spitting it one take. Stop the bullshyt people!!! Only a fool would believe this. Then there are people saying, "I saw him write it in his head". No dumbazz, he had the rhyme prepared before he got there
What makes you think this is so impossible to do?

Do you understand how intricate a song like 22 two's is to have been written in someone's head and completed in 1 take? Jay Z is not a good off the top of the head freestyler. We know this due to his radio session with Big L(who wasn't freestyling either) in which he ran out of rhymes and tried to go off of the head. For someone who have claimed to write his entire career in his head on the spot and can't freestyle makes no sense. Think about this, Jay Z dropped out of high school and so did biggie. They couldn't do the basic curriculum at a public high school, but are memorizing 48 lines in their head over the course of an hour or 2. Did it ever occur to you that someone with that kind of ability would be a goddamn genius and test out of high school with their diploma by the age of 14 or 15?

This is funny but SunZoo made some solid points in this regards. I still think like you are saying his best works are straight pen and paper due to intricacies.

As even a part time rhymer as myself. If you got a dope 4 bars going and you are still going if you do not write the style/cadence not just the words down you are loosing pure appeal. A whole rhyme page reads off like some great science maths not just poetry. Take Mase old school rhymes he had that rhyme every single bar style before a lot were on it. A smoothed out Kool G Rap but with more stealth. Thats damn near impossible without some notes written.

I dont doubt Jay holds superior skills that's clear but to memorize formula-tic poetry while baring in mind rhythm and melody. It is a hard reach. Memorizing hooks with less wordplay no doubt that's doable. Biggie said it to get more props and appeal same for Jay and the new gen. Like Skokiaan wrote below.

Engineers and goofy producers like Guru and Timbo will say I never saw him using pen and paper ever but this is a million dollar budget project though. He will be clearly prepared. Jay verses arent random gibberish spills they are cohesive only time it was clear he never used pen and paper was his verse on the UK remix of 'Another Levels - Don't want to be alone no more' I saw DJ Khaled say Jay sent his verse in on 'God Did' on the Joe/Jada podcast. Jay went over the allocated bar time slot and Khaled just worked the beat around it. No one looking but Beyonce and Mama Knowles yeah he is cracking out the pen and pad.

If battle rappers can stand onstage for an hour and rap multiple rounds from memory, why is someone doing it for 16 bars so far fetched?

Not just 16s bro.

Whole records after records. Not just any bars too, some of the finest rap music has heard.

Remember Jay came into this world a silent birth on DEC4th he has rapped about that a 100 times I know he loves any props he can get.

He has also rapped a 100 times about learning to ride a bike. Jay loves praise any type of props he can get off something he will say it :russ:

Sh1t like this got to stop. Jay is a genius but he is also very hardworking and disciplined let the children know that part too!

Producers goofy on purpose.

All Jay's sons in the game. The Rappers who look up to him have adopted that technique and need to chill with it. That's all.

I mean even if you don't write it down on paper they could've spent an hour or all day coming up with the rhymes in their head, they weren't just walking in the booth freestyling a verse in one take for 5 minutes that's where people get it confused, most rappers just punch in these days and don't write anything down but they be in the booth forever.
That's obviously what people thought it was but it wasn't that. Mfs would have to be literally retarded to think they didn't premeditate while songs.

I know a few people that dropped out of highschool and ended up going to college and getting a degree so that part doesn't make sense.

This just sounds like someone who can’t rap. And that’s not a diss just being real

It’d be like someone who doesn’t hoop, looking at kyrie and can’t fathom how it’s possible. Whereas if you hoop, yea he’s great but it’s not fuking black magic.

Also even if you do rap, there’s levels there too. Some nggs gotta LEARN the shyt and put their blood sweat and tears into something another dude can do naturally. Again hooping comes to mind; kids nowadays gotta get a trainer and be taught the moves that we just thought up out of thin air

I always roll my eyes at how other people react to jay z not writing. Outside of songs like 22 2’s, it’s not that hard to comprehend.

Lastly keep in mind that rapping isn’t the pinnacle of spoken word/vocabulary. For someone who does poetry, or read a lot growing up, or read the bible or dictionary, rapping is a cake walk. Words naturally come to you quicker. I wrote poetry and as a byproduct could spit effortlessly

Yeah, like Jay has literally broken it down before. He simply writes it all in his head, it's a memory exercise; he couldnt always write his bars down on the corners so he committed them to memory. He's not freestyling.
