yes. its nothing like AoE but it got that good strategy shyt

i got xcom on my ipad and its dope as hell

Based on a couple reviews I watched on Youtube, it seems that this is a strategy game has third-Person Shooter & Action RPG elements mixed in. Is that accurate?

it's a turn-based strategy game. the only "3rd person shooter" element is the presentation

for that matter, it doesn't really have "action RPG" elements. "turn-based" and "action" kinda contradict each other. I don't mean that as a diss, it's just that "action RPG" tends to mean there's some 'real time' element. where Xcom is strictly turn-based, like a traditional RPG

to be clear, it is a great game

:krs: nikka.......That's sounds a lot more exciting than them AOE games! It sounds like a mix of "Mass Effect" & "Company of Heroes". At this point i'm just considering whether I should get it on PS3 or PC.

Normally I'd steer people towards the PC version since it's always superior, but the devs did a really good job of designing the controls on this game. It's equally as playable on PS3 as it is on PC.

Can someone explain the differences between the various strategy sub-genres? I understand the AOE & company of heroes games are Real-Time Strategy. But I'm still confused on what Turn-based strategy, Turn-based tactics, & Real-time tactics are?

most modern strategy games are 'real time'. the action happens in real-time. at some point the pace usually really gets hectic, and you have to keep track of several things. although many have options to 'pause' the action at various points, and basically turn them into a turn-based game

with strictly turn-based games, like Xcom, you have a much more controlled pace. it's literally like chess or checkers, where players take turns. but in general you can move all your 'pieces' before your 'turn' is over (as opposed to moving one piece like chess). you move all your pieces, then the other player moves all theirs, and so on. you give orders like "move here", "shoot that", and it determines success based on various probabilities/stats. basically it becomes more of a 'thinking game', since things like reaction time, hand-eye coordination, quick decision making, etc, aren't a factor at all
