Lauryn Hill's new songs aren't even music. It's just speedy, sporadic flows with some nice lyrics. It has potential to be nice if focused. As is, it's not listenable. She doesn't seem to be connected with the music anymore.

You summed up what I struggled to put into words. Another member was trying to clown me when I discussed in another thread how unlike rapping singing is about connecting with people and how I am able to listen to more music from someone like Mariah Carey and they were trying to argue how Unplugged was some phenomenal record.

Lauryn as a whole just frustrates me in so many ways and I am embarrassed I use to defend her. Forgot your feelings on her music as a whole. We criticize people like Wayne for making horrible records, but would you not be pissed off at someone like Lauryn leeching off one solo after originally lying and making it seem like it was all her work and not crediting the people who helped her? Not only that but leeching for years on this by doing these random tours and special events as if she is some Queen and asking people to refer to her as "Ms Lauryn Hill".

Try not to compare 94-98 L. Boogie to the new "super conscious" & "awakened" Lauryn Hill. They are not the same person, and the new, supposedly wiser L is hell bent on continuing this agonizing, mismatched off-beat rapid fire bullshyt like it's really good music. Those fans that still want to believe in L.Boogie keep heralding the new shyt as "powerful" and "over the masses heads" are just as much sheep as the unawakened that they condemn.

I have YET to see this mentioned on the Coli but breh people forget this woman once rapped that Newt Gingrich can "suck dikk". Where did this "super conscious" Lauryn come from? Its a pain in the ass now. Before the usual suspects say it, its not hating on her being intelligent, she is forgetting how to make actual MUSIC....its the "Eminem syndrome"....She needs to learn to reinvent herself and not just release this half assed material.

Lauryn Hill will still be one my favorite female artists... her music just had that crisp sound it's hard not to appreciate it. MOLH will always be a gemstone in that female hip hop genre.
