We all know the term “steam machine” even though none exist because people have been asking for valve to make one.Who has been clamoring for that? PC people want a PC that they can take apart, upgrade, customize etc.

Which is why “Console” people have been clamoring for a machine that will do that, but also offer the PC library of gamesConsole people wanna turn on their console and play.

Again, all you guys think about is console wars.This thing is gonna be another bomb, console gamers are gonna get a PS6 and PC gamers are not gonna pay 1k for some prebuilt close garden garbage.
They should just focus on software and call it a day
There are exponentially more PC players than console players.Because they would lose a majority of their console sales to Sony. Last I checked they sold 33 million Series consoles. If they release a 2k console a majority of those people will move over to Sony especially if there console is only $600 and all of the Microsoft games are dropping on it too. As much as y'all keep saying it a lot of people do not have any desire to be a PC gamer lol.

Let those people move over to Sony. Anybody that buys a PlayStation is a potential Microsoft customer anyway. You act like they can't sell PlayStation buyers games.Because they would lose a majority of their console sales to Sony. Last I checked they sold 33 million Series consoles. They have to if it's a PC. You can't have a paywall for online play in that environmentonce again I'll just say that I don't see MS giving up all the money they charge for online. it has to be one of Xbox's largest revenue streams
where's the part where they make money?They have to if it's a PC. You can't have a paywall for online play in that environment
There is a path for this Microsoft plan to work
- Lightweight OS to allow better performance and use less resources
- Create strong partnerships with OEMs , so the set configuration is smooth across the board.
- No Online paywall
- Flawless backward compatibility emulator
- Easy access to various stores. Asus already does this with armory crate, so there needs to be a hub to various launchers and make the experience seamless
- User experience will be the most important thing because if they can create a console like experience, then I can see it catching on. There's many that want to get into pc gaming but they want a simplified experience. Microsot will need to provide that and maybe that could be the advantage of windows/xbox store over steam
- Price of course will be very important. I think they might be able to have a discounted price because they're buying bulk of parts, so it might be cheaper than building your own or buying other prebuilts. I think if they can price this right, then I can see this being an enticing product. I think people have to realize there's a big market of pc gamers that aren't power users and Microsoft can make this product attractive to them.
I think where they make money is shifting purchases towards windows/xbox store over other storefronts. I think people that buy this hardware might go with xbox/windows store if they can provide the best experience to play games. Steam is of course king, but if they can provide a better user experience, then that could encourage purchases and game pass subs. This is the part that Microsoft has to figure out because if they can nail OS and user experience. Then I can see people use Microsoft store as main driver. Microsoft will need to make sure updates and performance is there better on their store compared to others. This is of course all easier said than done.where's the part where they make money?
Everyone has a lane now
Nintendo = console/portable hybrid
PlayStation = traditional console
Xbox = console/pc hybrid
Nah I doubt thatWe're going back to the PS2 / Xbox / GameCube gen
PC cats are too engrained in steamI think where they make money is shifting purchases towards windows/xbox store over other storefronts. Yeah with everything shifting to digital and people having backwards compatibility to the previous generations. People are more locked into their console ecosystem than ever. People are not goito repurchase games through the M$ store especially if they have built a library up in Steam. I wonder what they're going to do when they're offering a game at full price when someone can just go to Steam and get the game at a discounted price. How are they making money off of that lolPC cats are too engrained in steam
Stop wasting my money and go hardcore publisher Nadella. Throw Phil and his not so Amazing Friends in the bushes!Their revenue stream is gonna crash, less console sales, less users in their store, no online service revenue, all their first party software taxed 30% from steam and Sony, etc

That's true. I just think if they can find a way to make the user experience better and more console-like. Then there's a path to get a decent amount of people to use their store over steam. I think there's many that want to jump to PC gaming, but don't want to tinker and would enjoy a console-like experience. It's up to Microsoft to provide the experience for customers. I feel if they do that, then some may make purchases on their store over steam if games are easier to use than Steam. This could also help them maintain gamepass sub. However, a lot of the path to success for this move all depends on Microsoft providing the software and user experience to customers. Based on history, it's going to be a tough path because essentially they will have to make a lightweight version of windows and unsure if they want to do that to move gamers away from traditional Windows to Xbox OS or whatever they call it.PC cats are too engrained in steam
