So what was Drake's buzz like?

I started listening to Drake around summer 2009 and I never used any hip hop forums or anything like that, so I had no idea how big his buzz was before he blew up with "So Far Gone."

The first time I heard of Tha Gawd Drizzy it was about early 2009. My homeboy came to my house and I downloaded a bunch of songs for him, one being "Ransom." Around that time Weezy was making bullshyt rock songs so I figured this "Drake" clown was some wack ass rock artist weezy was collaboing with. So that song stayed on my computer for months on end until I finally realized who Drake was.

So tell me. What was the buzz like and how big was he before he finally blew up? What were your thoughts on him too? Did you think he was gonna be a one hit wonder or did you know he was gonna be this big?

Comeback Seasons was awesome

Drake's whole sound was pretty different at the time from what it turned into today, and I was already up on Canadian music, guys like Slakah The Beatchild and the like, so hearing Drake come out with a tape like that with Phonte, 9th Wonder, Dwele, etc was good to hear.

He was on my radar because Replacement Girl got play on MUCH, and the whole Degrassi thing got him visible, but I really didn't see him blowing up, to be honest. His buzz in late '08 was wasn't comparable to Wale or Kid Cudi, for example, but here we are in 2013 and he's arguably the #1 guy in rap.

That Trey Songz video was the only weak song on the mixtape breh and it's not even weak.





People were fukking with Drake but he was still underground like K.dot was before Section 80.
People started clowning him when he started fukking with Wayne, cause cats don't clown until success starts building up. And then he dropped So Far Gone and made the haters irrelevant quick.
