serious fan doesn't = 14 y/o who posts on Immortal Technique videos :heh:

Casual fans buy shyt, cause they aren't concerned with how real such an such rapper is, what kinda deal they have, how many times they've gotten knocked out/robbed/ or fought somebody, who's behind a song being on the radio how many times a day.

they buy/support shyt, cause they like it...and serious fans just can't fathom why people would do shyt like that....for such a simple reason

you pretentious types really think cause you have some fake deep explanation for why you went and bought Kendrick Lamars album it somehow means more than the 17 year old girl who bought the same album, cause she think Kendrick cute and she likes "bytch Don't Kill My Vibe"

whatever helps you sleep better at night breh.

Stop stereotyping me :pacspit:

By "Serious fans", Im talking about anyone who considers themselves passionate about hip hop, not just the pretentious types.

Like I said before this thread is from the labels perspective

The only distinction Im making is between rappers whose success hinges on crossing over into the mainstream, & rappers who are relying on their fan bases.

The latter are the ones moving units...

We've established who sold the most so far this year. By the end of the year, who will be the top three selling hip hop artists?:mjpls:

superstars like Eminem& Jay Z dont count. Were talking about potential trends in the industry, so I dont really see how established artists are relevant to the discussion

That's a RocNation/Universal release breh.

Roc A Fella doesn't really exist as a label anymore, it's just a crew these days.

Bu-Bu-Bu-But it still has the roc imprint on the release pretty sure people on here who got the hard copy will see the samething, and Def Jam still has Jay as a artist and updates his info on the regular, unlike the artist who are there with no ties to the label whatsoever but on some alumi shyt, like Bo$$,Camron, Jayo, Flesh, Oran Juice Jones, The Murderers(of all cliques), hell South Central Cartel not even on it.

Jay info gets updated more than K.r.i.t's, Jeezy, and Kanye together, they just took the Young off of Jeezy info

Jayz had to give away a million to make claims that he sold a million.

This thread is from the perspective of a dude who got suckered into believe that music is being tailored to his liking now.

J Cole and Kendrick ( your prime examples of whatever you're talking about) clearly fall into the first category.

Kendrick would not be anywhere close to the level of fame/recognition he's at currently,if it weren't for Interscope making him mainstream....

J Cole? you mean the guy who's in Beyonce's video in a bugatti, was at the celebrity NBA all star game, has a cheesy " love yourself, your imperfections make you special girl" anthem all over the radio all day long, is always doing shows with Rihanna ( who's as mainstream as it gets) ....aint mainstream?
