Lots of pissed off veterans on my newsfeed lately. Death benefits not being paid, having to take charity to bury dead military, certain benefits haven't been paid, back log, pension benefits payment might not go out next month for all veterans.

i know a few people in ny who think like this, and a few in TX.... some people just wanna wait for the right time and not be lone soldiers.

a government who takes the opportunity around every corner to give lip service and praise to soldiers and the armed forces. politicians always play the military sympathizer during every campaign. but at the same time do not give enough resources to take care of those same soldiers.

it also reminds me how the govt loves to bring up 9/11 and praise the first responders. but a lot of those responders who have fukked up respiratory systems now cant get any medical or financial support.

It will be their own undoing. You train people to kill, invade and overthrow governments and the backhand them. A lot of these people are armed, skilled and not afraid.

I'll be honest with you, I am already being financially affected by the shutdown, and will be even more so Nov 1st but I hope this keeps going. I hope the default happens and a recession hits.

On a personal level, and this is just anecdotal, but I've had two friends who are hardcore GOP nuts, the type to blame Democrats for everything, say to me that they realize the problem is the entire government and the corruption. If those two cats can wake up over one missed benefits payment, can you imagine what kind of awakening we can see country wide? Let it start fukking with police pensions, military benefits, social program funding. Just let it all go to hell.

One can only hope.

The ends do not justify the means. But I won't go back to a debate we had almost two years ago. But I'll just say that this is not an Aaron Sorkin movie. Oh and on an anecdotal level, my right-wing friends in the military are blaming both parties but still empathize with the GOP. Anecdotes don't mean anything.

But to respond to this thread generally, it's quite simple, the government is a reflection of what people are willing to take. In countries like Thailand, emergence was met with plenty of corruption but because society benefited as a whole, the public accepted it. The Unites States government is a reflection of what people are willing to accept. We have accepted a certain amount of corruption and we have participation rates much lower than other parts of the world. People can complain all they want, but ultimately there's a sense of inevitably and just plain disinterest. It's difficult to get the public rally against the government when the public cannot agree on basic issues of what its government should be doing. Those polls about widespread disapproval don't mean as much because people are disapproving for different reasons.

So to answer @LeyeT 's question, people will stand up to government incompetence when there's a change in the baseline consensus on what the government should be providing, and we're a long way away from that.

BarNone, I think you're afraid of the system falling apart because you built your life around that system. That's not a shot at you, but you have said on here multiple times that you are supposedly involved with politicians, Dems, and government institutions. That's your life line.
