Being in Japan the options are limited for me. Don’t have an oven big enough for a turkey even if I could get a good sized one. Gotta settle for chicken and whatever I can scrounge up. :mjcry: American food is expensive as hell. But I’m telling you though my turkey back in the states would make you see Jesus :ahh:

So what yall got cooking and who in your family had control over the oven? Any special dishes or recipes you want to share?

This nikka fled to Japan just to be broke over there.
Sorry this is a thread for Americans, mainly Black Americans, surely there’s a thread about whatever oatmeal and goat raisin based dishes your people like to eat somewhere out there.

Made my three desserts tonight. Sweet Potato Pie, Pumpkin Spice Cake, and a Biscoff Butter Bread

Tomorrow I'm cooking some baked mac and cheese, Potato Au Gratin, Deviled Eggs, Green Beans, Dressing, Brown Sugar Glazed Ham, Ribs, and maybe some corn casserole. Told everyone to get the fukk out of my way and clean up after, lol

I got Nihongo Jozu’d today actually.

I’m not sure I understand.
Do people in Japan compliment foreigners attempts at speaking Japanese in a snarky way? Kind of how southerners will say “bless your heart” but it’s really insulting?

Well I’m skr8 up out da sou & “bless your heart” is definitely overstated as an insult, that’s some shyt from like movies… But yea basically. they typically just want you to keep trying even if it’s not the greatest when they say that. But if your Japanese was truly great they likely wouldn’t say that. So it’s more like “oh I see you, keep at it brehsan”

but damn op, they ain’t got no golden corrals in Tokyo? Shidddd I’ll be damned. You starving out there. I know they got a turkey burger and some cranberry sauce from the farmers market you can munch on.

I've been to Tokyo and I loved it. But I couldn't tell if they were making fun of me.
I just knew how to say Thank You, and Beer. LOL

It’s not really insulting unless you have thin skin but Japanese typically overreact if you speak even a little bit of Japanese. Sometimes it comes off as infantilizing. Not to me because I don’t care but imagine you’ve been in Japan 15 years, learned the language after intensive study, and every time you speak someone’s going “omg you speak so well”. It’d be like a Chinese person coming up to you saying hello and you going “omg you speak English so well!”

Like in the clip all he says is Konbanwa, genki desu ka “good evening, how are you”, she starts to glaze him and he replies “I understand a little Japanese, my wife’s Japanese” which sends her to the moon. Now she’s probably just star struck but that reaction is very familiar. He kind of tries to save himself by saying “Nihongo scosh shaberu, zen zen wakarimasen”. Of course she should be surprised a semi famous actor speaks her language but it gave “Nihongo Jouzu “ vibes.

What’s funny is all the articles on this little clip say he’s fluent in Japanese and he is speaking very basic stuff here in a very American accent lol. I bet his wife gave him shyt for this clip.
