I would still get the 235/240i

They are just as fast stock. Get coilovers, LSD, new pads/rotors/fluid, tires you'll be 98% there. M2 is not bad, but not worth the premium IMO. Truthfully, for the street, M3/4 not worth it over a 340i/440i either.

I'm not sure the extra performance justifies the increase in price tag. I think a loaded out 2 series is just fine for most people.

M2s are depreciating at an extremely slow rate. Mine is a 18 and just about a year old...technically. 18s are still doing pretty close to MSRP on CarGurus and Autotrader even with the newer M2 CS with the S55 coming. They are doing even more through private sales.

My dealer called to offer me a CS allotment and gave me pretty close to all my pretax money back on the M2 if I wanted to trade towards the CS.

Can't say the same about slightly used 235/240s. Depreciation on those are horrible. So buying used is your best bet.

I paid cash money for my M2 brand new. Plan on holding on to it for awhile. Depreciation was absolutely a consideration.

I have a 240i. I can't imagine anyone who owns one too, would want to part ways with it... So depreciation is not really factor for me. So far, the b58 has been very reliable for me and many on 2addict forums. The s55, not so much from what I read.

Yea I've got an M4 now and I miss my 2011 335i a lot. Largely because the N55 which as you know was the B58's predecessor, is a better engine than the S55.

Oh well. Live and learn.

On what planet is the N55 a better engine than the S55?:what:. The N55 isn't even as good of an engine as the N54.

It's less powerful, but it's far more smooth and more efficient and sounds a hell of a lot better. There's significantly less turbo lag, better power curve (that's subjective).

Plus it's reliable as hell.

N55 is the perfect engine.

The N55 does not have less lag than the S55...:dahell: The S55 has anti lag as long as you have the throttle set to sport or sport+. You must be driving around with your throttle set to comfort....:usure:

Throttle lag != turbo lag

N55 had more throttle lag (probably my only complaint about the engine, even though it was more of a DBW issue than an engine issue, but I digress).
S55 has more turbo lag.

Breh just because the setting is activated by the throttle control settings doesn't mean it's related to throttle lag....:francis:
S55 Anti lag system
"In "Sport" and "Sport Plus" settings, the turbochargers are "pre-tensioned," which means that they keep spinning at a high rate of speed even after you have taken your foot off the throttle. This trick ensures ultra-quick response times fully comparable to those of a naturally aspirated engine. To bring engine revs down, cylinders are deactivated. The system doesn't work for extended time, but it operates under racetrack conditions and whenever the car senses quick bursts of acceleration and deceleration."

I know what turbo lag is, breh.

The M4 has it.

I don't notice it as much in Sport mode (I never drive in Sport+) because when I'm in sport mode the RPMs are usually above 4k. I really only notice it when accelerating from a stop.

:yeshrug: Maybe my car is just broken.
