So...What's the Main Argument Against Reparations, Again?

Should descendants of African slaves receive reparations?

"Reparations" for slavery, war, or other destructive acts is only an outrageous idea when it comes to African-Americans in the United States. :francis:

Of course we should. The problem is in how they will be disseminated among the population. Many are opting for free education or payment of no taxes of any sort.

Another talking point is to declare 'The slaves should get them, not their descendants since they weren't slaves'.....which is preposterous and insulting to intelligence.

My counter-argument: If not for slavery, Black/African people would not have had to deal with racism since history shows racism is a direct result of the North American slave trade and not due to some innate tribal or psycho/socio-cultural 'natural' bias towards ethnic differences prior to the 17th Century.

There’s no argument, just no real discussion on it. It’s unlikely now too. Almost not worth it too. I deserve to get paid, yes, but it’s pointless demanding payment in this instance. I almost don’t want reparations because “fukk their money”. I doubt money would make my children’s children’s lives better, especially if they plan to continue living in the US.

Depends on what type of reparations we are talking about.

Pure Cash - If the government gave descendants of slaves enough money to make a change in their lives ($100K or better), it would bankrupt the government.

Investments/Schools/Infrastructure/Jobs - Makes sense but the government would argue that they are doing that anyways

It ain't gonna happen either way tho. anybody that thinks it's even a possibility thinks too highly of white people.

why did you include the Rwandan genocide? That is an internal struggle.

Yup pay what is owed. So much of this country was built for free! With my ancestors blood sweat and tears. A lot of people are wealthy because they're ancestors were direct beneficiaries of the slave trade. Maybe we need a class action lawsuit. I believe a brother was suing the us government at one time but his name escapes me.

According to the 2010 census, there are 37,144,530 non-hispanic blacks in the US.

I think $100 grand is unrealistic, but $10 grand would be reasonable. Most of it would go right back into the economy anyways. :kanyebp:

37,144,530 x $10,000 = 371.4 billion. It'd be a stretch, but don't let America tell you it's not feasible--we've spent a combined $2.4 trillion on the Iraq War alone as of this year. :damnshakebp:

Reparations paid directly paid to people would look like the Dave Chappelle skit with several white owned brands stocks soaring.

Black people dont have the financial literacy or infrastructure for that to work in our favour.

However business grants and College grants is a great idea, helps create autonomy and an educated race that doesnt squander the money on pointless material things.

It is never too late and aslong as Black people feel the effects of generations of being held back it will always be valid.
