where does he rank on your list of top Hip Hop producers? Or producers in general? Top 10? Top 30?

I mean, he laced the goat group. Soul samples, funk, jazz vibes (Lucy Pearl and Raphael Saddiq)

Even though his career is ~ 60-40 Hip Hop to R&B, whatcha think?

I can't rate him by number.

But he was majorly involved in helping to craft the sound of ATCQ. So that alone, makes him a legend. If we move forward, his work with The Ummah, with Tip and Dilla was just CRAZY!! We're talkin' about a guy whose ear for music was seriously next level. But he was never about being seen, only heard. Ridiculously impactful career right there.

That's why I consider him one of the truly admirable producers in HH. Yes, better than Ye, ...I wish fans got a chance to know who he is, he does the Hip Hop podcast on NPR but it would've been fantastic to see more of him when they were really putting in work. I was a baby anyway but still :guilty:

I used to esteem him a lot more until I found out a lot of the work I attributed to him was more of Tip and Jay Dee.

I put him in the same class of somebody like The D.O.C.

What work? Love Movement and beyond or as early as People's Instinctive Travels?

It's hard to say really, which is my point. I watched the Tribe movie, and it sounded like Tip was doing most of the work.
I can listen to Love Movement and Beats, Rhymes, & Life and tell what Dilla may have done because I know of his
outside work. I can't really pinpoint Ali's style.
