I'm a Pau fan but the thing is he's never really been a succesful number one option unlike those other guys you listed. His pre-Lakers career was even though he was putting up numbers, he had a couple good years in Chicago but they didn't do anything either

He's HOF though due to good numbers and longevity, those two titles and international play

Marc wasn't contributing on a good team until 2010-2011. Kobe was demanding a trade after 2.5 seasons of no Shaq. He wasn't gonna wait for Marc to develop. That would have been 5-6 years of rebuilding, not to mention it makes having Andrew Bynum redundant. The only big free agent the lakers have signed in the last 30 years to build around was Shaq. The lakers were much better off trading for pau
