But look at dudes like Kaepernick and Wilson. A 2nd rounder and a 3rd rounder.

Trading Revis would allow the Jets to take a shot on guys like them. Talented players but with a caveat attached.

And while I agree if the Jets throw $14m a year at him he`d probably stay there, is that good business. Just grossly overpaying a guy.

A contending team will offer him 10-11 mil a year and he`ll bounce for that offer.

1. There isn't a Kapernick or Wilson in this draft. If there was they'd go before we even pick at #9 . The caveat that these QB's have this year is that they suck in their own ways.

2. God help the Jets if they use those picks to draft a QB this year. The QB won't beat out Fez. Rex won't play him. He'll lose his job and then the next coach may not even want the QB that's there (and if he does, that coach is on the hot seat immediately if he uses some 2nd or 3rd round QB to pass up one of the 2014 QB's).

3. Fez will get us a new QB by being himself.

4. Lastly, in other words, you're telling me, we're gonna get the next Darrelle Revis or Von Miller or JJ Watt or Aldon Smith or whoever you wanna use as a comparison, with a late first and a 2nd rounder when this team can't even be trusted to do that with the picks that they own now.

Appearing on NFL Live Wednesday, ESPN's Ed Werder predicted that the Jets will not get a first-round pick for Darrelle Revis.
"I think it's unlikely that the Jets can get a No. 1 pick," said Werder. "I think a lot of teams might consider giving up a (second-round pick) or less. The Jets are dealing from a position of obvious weakness. Two reasons: He's coming off ACL surgery in the final year of his contract. (And) his contract demands really have potential suitors worried the most. Teams know that if they wait a year, he'll become a free agent. They could get him for nothing." In addition to the 49ers and Falcons, Werder mentioned the Bucs and Lions as potential Revis suitors. Mar 6 - 4:10 PM

funny, I was saying the exact same thing in this thread and was called a homer and a whiner :beli:

the only team that will even consider revis as a rental are the ones close to the superbowl/contenders. hence why 49ers and falcons are mentioned, even though it looks like neither is interested

then there's only one option left:

keep him and pay him, the only option that ever made sense.

I could see why teams wouldnt give up a ton but as a Jet fan id rather resign him or try to then get back a mid round pick for him..fukk that

imo the problem is that the jets have to basically make the decision to pay him long term now, not aware of how he is progressing with the ACL tear thing.

otherwise keeping him for the year and letting him walk just looks foolish. a high 2nd rounder this year is much better than a comp pick next year, imo

Yet you leave out the fact there is no guarantee he signs there.

He's gonna be in the prime of his career, what if they are 4-12 and then fire Rex.

No one he's sticking around
we were talking about signing him long-term now...the jets would have to lock him up long-term before the draft

No one thought Kaep or Wilson would be what they are and that's the point, there's guys in the draft like Naasib, Glennon and others who could become the next guy.

That's not true.

1. both of them came from QB rich drafts. If any QB showed a glimpse of that, they'd go top 10. At the moment, there's 1 at best that could go that high and that's Geno Smith, a QB the Jets would pass up with their own pick at 9.

2. Nobody doubted Wilson's talent. They doubted whether he could perform at a high level due to his height. Kaep had talent but a lot of people thought it would take time. 1.5 years later, you have what you have now. None of those guys are a) as good as Kaep and Russell and b) going to get an opportunity to QB this team as long as Fez is here.

You're assuming Revis would take less to leave. He ain't taking less of nothing.

Should they trade Wilkerson, Ellis and Coples too? Apparently this is the type of defense only Rex can maneuver.
