Eh, wrestling blew up in the late-90s, because there was a confluence of a lot societal elements and variables. Our society was becoming more coarse, in large part because our president was caught nuttin' on an intern and lying about it. Our economy was crackin', the internet was a new phenomenon changing the world ( wrestling benefitted more than anything in its early days. The net peeled back the curtain on wrestling, adding tremendous interest and connected fans into an IWC community)...etc.

Wrestling will always have its core base, but to expand on that there has to be some sort of society wide shock or set of cultural/economic conditions that aid in wrestlings popularity.

Its the reason why comedies and dramas come and go. People just move on, and become disinterested. People move on from wrestling outside of its loyal base. Got to give the WWE credit for remaining profitable, and successful, even during down times and recessions. Lord knows nobody else can claim that.

Our generation is more cynical than the 80s and whatever they are trying to pass off as the WWE today. There's a reason why Cena could never be accepted. He's far too soft and he sold out his character construction for a dollar bill and easy booking. Jericho would neevr play himself like that without it being reasonable and him getting a rub out of it long term. And the list goes on.

People can move on all they want but it took some help to trample this empire. The reactions were sky high and money was still being made before it went all PG. Ever since, there's been a drop off that has never considerably been the same as yesteryear. The Nexus stuff/Wade Barrett main events with Cena drew more than the ones with Punk in 2011 and 2012. But they shot that guy in the foot and made him start over. The booking sucks. The weird IC title feuds are hilariously bad....you got to beat the champion to get a title shot? They've been playing that game since Blandy and Shelton's title reigns from 2004 and 2005. No wonder the IC feuds never gain steam. It takes a near conspiracy to beat Cena with no bullshyt but Barrett beat the shyt out of Kofi in like 10 minutes to get a #1 contender shot. It's backwards.

def not as good as it could or should have been. was a HHH appreciation piece if anything. they highlighted a few things, but imo should have to just went in order instead of just talking about random things and people.
