yeah? so the song blew good ... his sister is neneh cherry so i guess back then like ray-j and brandy you could get put on via proximity.

alix lapri, quick question from 1 - 10 where you rate her bro?

if we pooled 50 000 together on the coli, i reckon we can get a track with video too. :wow:

Yeah. I'm a fan of Nenah Cherry's music too. Her first album "Raw like Sushi" is a classic :banderas:

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd say she's a 10 out of 10. She's beautiful :whoo:

If you're on her socials you know her vibe and style. Write a song based around that and send it to her as a reference. People love hearing about themselves and screens, if you peep through the veneer, give a hint of the true soul within. Tap into this and build because authenticity is magnetic and a very rare element that people get addicted to quickly in this realm.

You Don't Know My Name = Why You Being Weird To Me - Wednesday Special - Hot Chocolate

Starter for ten:

I don't know what it is
I can't see
But I feel
Why you being weird to me?

Sang in a breathy style with a yearning tone that crescendos as the verse rises.

Take it to the lab and get to cookin...

bro up until now i havent even thought of that, i always look for the person contact details via management and representitives, etc.

but thats genius, i can could just be all the way real.

- hi i am such and such, would you mind doing a reference track for this song ... (i have coin and you will be credited)

the likelihood is that she has 400 DMs everyday to filter through so i might have to be persistent or find something to stand out.

theres the cartoons. do her up as a cartoon and send over one of the 10 songs that i have officially recorded and see what happens ... any type of traction will be positive as either something to learn by or earn by. (i will wait until i have a whole video to send her - ideally i wasnt targeting any "stars" because my network and paper game is non existent for the industry. so i was hoping for more bread coming in soon.

i believe 50,000 will get her recording a track and doing the video if need be, i have less than half of that! :wow::salute:

Always cut out the middle man, go direct to the connect because the middle man is an unnecessary obstacle who makes his living by making sure you accept less and has the potential to step on the product or prevent your access. Why overcome what you can circumvent? The direct approach pays dividends, time and again, plus you stand out in the crowd for actually having the balls to step.

It was criminal that this song wasn't a hit:

The whole world should have it filed in their emotional rolodex.

Hit her up for a remake of this after the reference track because it would fit her style perfectly. In my mind you've already charted and smashed the game.

- i like the echo in the chorus like that SWV joint.

- she has a sweet soulful voice, i believe the sincerity of her words.

- it was probably released with heavy competition at the time for the Top 10 position.

as for hitting Alix for a remake of this track. surprisingly enough she loves doing remakes thats all on her soundcloud lol.

props.

i would love to give the world a song like this and RIP DMX so maybe Wiz, Nas or Chance the Rapper could do a verse.

needs a heavier beat, but the song had and has me always inspirational.

the black cat is my crown...
off topic: my apologies....

cats that listen to neneh cherry & caron wheeler........ :banderas:

granted caron was lead singer of soul ii soul and they were monsters at first, but few people know about her solo career....

i think caron didn't hit because the sound was too different from the hits with soul ii soul, but still incredible....

i love the song she did with soul ii soul when they got back together for one track (take me higher)

okay, let me stop hijacking this thread.....

You ever heard the promo mixes?

OG is the one for me but one of the best things back in the days was you'd get so many alts on the promo circuit as white labels, EPs or B Sides.

It was a lateral move from SIIS but the track had the clubs on smash because everyone was feeling it, she had brand recognition, traction in the industry plus it was a feature on hit soundtrack so I thought it would move units but they never dropped a visual and I'd be surprised if the singles went past the promos we had as I never heard it out and about even though I rinsed it.

The structure of the song and arrangement of the retail is genius because it fits like a well worn glove and you sing along even if its the first time you heard it. Songs like that are very rare but it just goes to show 10% is all that is because the other 90 is strictly business....

no, i never knew there were remixes.... i'm guilty too... i had caron's first album... that shyt was fire... but i only had the single i adore you, never even heard her second album..... uk blak is my shyt... i'll check these remixes out...

with regard to neneh, her first album was my favorite by her... wish she did another one with that style, but my favorite two songs by her are on her second album... twisted and red paint... the lyricism on red paint is classic...

The sheer amount of talent flying around in the 90s was crazy and the competition was so fierce that it made artist strive to outdo everyone else.

The net with its homogenizing effect bought a lot to the table and killed a lot as well. For example people use the same sounds whereas back then no one knew what was in the lab or how you'd tweaked the presets etc... that and a joint would only drop once it was ready and nobody wanted to overtly jock someones style.

Well until NJS dropped then all off a sudden it became OK to be Toddy Raley but we let that slide because the tracks went so hard in the club. Even though in retrospect it sounded like one big ass blend with minor variations and artists that were virtually indistinguishable as everyone tried to sound the same. Spoke on it previously as its very similar to the Trap wave in modern times:

this is fire.

Its amazing how the mixes can totally flip a vocal performance and change the mood of a tune. Loads of times they'd drop white labels of songs to find out what the reaction was like on the floor and either the artist would vanish, never to be heard from or have their song redone by someone famous to become a huge commercial hit, best example:

Same with Return Of The Mack. I first heard it around a year or two before the promo dropped as Mark was performing in this super rough spot at 4AM as the closing act before he'd got signed and I knew it would be a huge smash because the entire crowd came back to life and he sang it back to back and had the scene on smash.

lol @ coming back to life.

yeah Mark Morrison made an all time classic with that one.

and yep often a great producer will take a song that has something and highlight it and make it massive.

an example : norman cook aka. fat boy slim (he listened to the cornershop boys original of brimful of asha which barely charted then remixed it into a smash hit)
