Why divide?

And besides lowkey Muslims spiritual discipline regarding things such as prayer and fasting runs laps over most
:manny:

‘Tis true, ‘tis true.

I only do this with @The Hon. Stringer Bell to make sure that he’s rigorously testing his religious faith. I’m sure he’s devout and faithful. As a Christian, when I open the Koran, there are red flags everywhere, so much so, that I have to dismiss its legitimacy. But on the flip side, I welcome Muslim’s observations as well that will test the knowledge of my own faith.

And as I’ve said before, Islam is a religion of rules and laws. So of course, Muslims are going to strictly adhere to those rules and laws.

It differs fundamentally from Christianity, which is not a religion of rules and laws, but a religion of faith.

It's fundamentally incorrect to say Islam is a religion or laws and not faith. Taqwa- The belief in the oneness of God and the fear and awe of him is the most important element of Islam. Somebody could live their whole lives in sin, but in their final moments utter la illah ila allah (there is no God but God) and truly believe it and go to paradise.

My understanding is wrong then. My understanding was that Allah wills what he wills. That you can believe in the Taqwa and religiously say your five prayers, and do your Hajj, and not commit shirk, and you still cannot be assured that Allah will welcome you into Paradise. If Allah wills that you go to hell, then you go to hell, despite your works of devoutness.

We only enter paradise by the mercy of Allah, our deeds help us to receive his mercy. We enter hell because our deeds have placed us outside the mercy of Allah.

so your deeds (works, adherence/observance to Islamic rules/laws) helps you obtain the mercy of Allah. what if Allah decides to withhold his mercy? does Allah have the power to withhold his mercy? can a person’s deeds not be enough to obtain Allah’s mercy?

This still seems up in the air.

Whereas in Christianity, salvation is a gift freely given and not obtained by any works or deeds by which a man can boast of or exclaim.

He makes it forbidden for himself to withhold his mercy for those with taqwa who do good deeds. If you commit many sins that you never sought forgiveness for, your deeds may not be enough.

they was in the wrong place and the wrong time

if Sodom and Gomorrah was “attacked by God” , then his ass been on vacay for 500+ years . USA sounds like everything those two cities was
Every major city in history has been like the cities of Sodom & Gommorah - which is kind of the point. Its a call to arms for Israelites at the time, a warning that the behaviors allowed by the other Canaanite cults and religions, were not allowed in the Israelite nation. These behaviors were present in Israel as well, but its moreso a cautionary tale than any real histiography.
