Since I produce and search all over for sounds I have noticed that A LOT of producers use sounds from construction kits, stock loops from DAW's etc...hell the nikkaz In Paris beat is almost indentical to a put together track from a construction kit. I know that argument can be made that sampling is basically the same thing but the purest will TOTALLY disagree. :manny: hell a lot of ol' school cats don't respect ANYONE who doesn't use analog based equipment...IE Mpc's, Emu, samplers. What's your take on this Coli fam?!? :ohhh:

It's kind of the same thing as getting help with hooks, verses, etc. Purist might look down on it, but I don't think the masses will care enough :manny:

I think it's silly cause we can use a 4 or 8 bar loop of an old jazz record but using loop of someone playing a cool synth
melody or chord progression is against the rules?

Just saw a interview with Nelly where he said dudes in the industry was on Drake side cause this reference track shyt is common knowledge.

He said even he used reference tracks from Pharrell and Jermaine Dupri.
This shyt is new to yall but not to the industry

My question to this though was the reference track more a beat and hook by them because no chance in hell those 2 wrote lyrics for him. That's different than Drake getting lyrical reference tracks when he suppose to be the "man" just my opinion :manny:

Well I don't know about the JD one but he alluded that the Pharrell track was already done and he just told Nelly what to say

and what to do was more than likely to add verses...that shyt has been done since the beginning of the music business. Not the same.

This is a good question ... Honestly I think as with anything it's a matter of degree...

If you bounce and flip a reference track cool... If you straight Jack it then why would you get the props the dude who made the reference produced it...

I actually need to go back and edit the title cause a producer and beat maker are two totally different things.

First off, I will never respect Drake as an MC due to the information that has recently come to light. I just had to get that out the way.

Now, as a producer, I have no qualms with people using construction kits, loops, stock loops, etc... but personally I don't use those things because it just "doesn't feel right"

I RARELY use any sort of straight loop even when I sample shyt. Even if it's a 5 second loop that I chopped, I'm gonna break it down on the pads and chop up a new melody from the loop. But to each it's own. There isn't any rules when it comes to creativity. Everyone has a different definition on what is "pure" or "real" to them. Some of my favorite producers do a lot of the shyt that I flat out refuse to do, for example, taking a loop and just adding a sampled drum break and calling it a day.

Yeah and it's funny how many BIG songs were done like that by some of the supposed Greatest producers
