He did a lot wrong by stepping on a lot of industry toes from a position of weakness even though he perceived himself to be strong. When you fall from the top, none of those people will catch you.

He got black balled.

A lot of dudes did not like him and the execs at Def Jam were happy when they didn't have to deal with him anymore.

Dame made millions, and gives $20 million dollar cash influx to his companies. He'll be alright, he just have to say bye to the music biz.

Business is business, Jay has said the past 5 years or so and even on that Pound Cake track, everyone made money. Even told Dame to go make another Hov.

The official story the relationship between the two got strained when Dame started to make decisions Jay didn't like.

Seems like business, nothing personal.

That Jaz O thread got me to watching those "Last Days of the Roc" videos.

Its probably a simple case of friends growing apart. Nobody is probably "wrong" in the scenario...things just changed.
Im sure Jay did fukked up things, and Dame did fukked up things.

I mean, how can you watch this and not think Jay wasnt a little fukked up? He could have told Dame straight up how he was feeling...but he did it kind of sly behind his back.

Dame signing Cam'ron (and makin' him VP of the ROC) and The Diplomats is probably what triggered Jay to dump him.

On the outside looking in, I always say that after that, I wouldn't have been able to mess with dude like that anymore either.

These were dudes who he brought to the label, and let them diss his partner on songs like it was nothing. And then to try and make Cam the VP without his equal partner's approval was like :patrice:

With that being said, I can't blame Hov for :camby: Cam from the position, and later Dame from all business ties.

He (and biggs) became expendable...puff doesn't have somebody getting 2/3rds of his potential take that isn't absolutely essential. ..Once they outlived their usefulness as partners, loyalty wasn't enough to outweigh the cold hard math of it all...it's not a baby/slim situation where they're literally brothers, so it was inevitable. .. that's on top of them becoming liabilities, Dame clashing with jays new Jewish friends and spending company money on side businesses. ..and Biggs possibly still being in the streets (he got knocked but that was after the split, so can't say for sure)

Its a cold world.

I was never really a fan of Jay, so I never really understood his plight. But him vetoing Cam's presidential nomination was a huge red flag.

but explain the part where jay said they couldve kept rocafella and he woulda declined the def jam spot if he wouldve got the masters to reasonable doubt?

Cam never took the spot...he says it in the video (and then goes on to say Jay stabbed dude over Charlie Baltimore :ohhh:)

He never took the spot, but it was enough that he was offered the position in the first place. I'm sure Jay had other reasons as well and somebody definitely got in his ear, but once Cam and them came, they kinda took away his shine.

On principle, I would've did the same exact thing. ..Jay already owns 1/3rd of the masters, but wanted Dame and Biggs share. ..they consider RD as much their baby as he does, it flat out doesn't exist without groundwork during the roc's indie days.. and far as I know it wasn't that they would get to keep rocafella (ie the acts)...Just that they could still use the name...which of course meant nothing. ...DDMG nor Blu Roc would be any more successful had they been "rocafella" instead. .Dame was blackballed for years of being jays enforcer and playing bad cop to jays good cop, the name of his brand was irrelevant
