SOHH has a generational defining game been released yet since the inception of Xbox One & PS4 ?

Starcraft is 5th best selling PC game of all time, behind Mine Craft and World of Warcraft (2 most popular games of all time). Open beta (arguably most popular beta of all time) came out 1997. Release date early 1998.

Half-Life is 7th best selling PC game of all time (Half Life 2 is #4). It came out in 1998.

These games both sold millions more than Goldeneye. MILLIONS MORE. So SOMEONE had computers capable of playing these 2 games (Starcraft didnt come out for Apple/Macintosh til 1999) on their PCs that you say no one had :heh:

but :whoa: let me stop dropping facts in here, we know the Arcadium not built for facts and shyt :heh:

Those games sold all those copies through countless Re-releases. They are still selling versions of those games today. Not to say that they weren't popular. But they didn't sell 9 million coppies in 1997 like you are implying.

Starcraft didn't require a 3d accelerator, so people with whatever computer could play that. Unreal and such were a different story. Half Life probably saw most of its sales years later

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
Ryse, Dead Rising 2, Infamous, UFC, forza 5, forza horizon 2, sunset overdrive, dying light, killer instinct, killzone, driveclub, Battlefield 4

That's all in the first year, and not even including sports titles, indies, or Wii u games.

Nov 2007 :comeon:

So graphics update=innovative in 1984, but in 2015 its not enough?

First off your whole comparison is off. Back in the early days the systems came out in Japan first, so most of the games on these lists actually came out a year or two in the cycle. Also the majority of those games are ports from the arcade. Pretty much the "remasters" of their time.

Now moving beyond that, you claimed the systems launched with 5-6 "genre defining games" like Mario/Zelda/metroid. But now when you post your lists you wanna claim shyt like Clu Clu Land, total eclipse turbo, and fantavision are "genre defining":stopitslime:
Those were the list of all the games. Not ones I only said were gen defining

The games you named were mostly trash, redos and sequels

My god. Where are the fukking amazing. Holy shyt. Damn this was worth my 400. Damn I can't even believe this is possible on a console, type of games?

How we get day 1 halo but now we waiting on year 3 halo

365 day uncharted and now it's 1095 day uncharted 3

Where's the next gen EXCLUSIVE AAA games at? nikka talking bout ryse!!!! That's the game you'd put on the same level as a next gen designed halo???

Or a halo you could use with kinect to jump and duck and roll around the living room?

Let me not even get started on how they fumbled the kinect ball. That's been like 5 years. Where's that AAA game at?

They lazy man. Or cheap. Or simply like fukk these people, they already bought it, we can chill

Most of the games on your list were the same. But you said it wasn't about the games being good. it was about genre defining stuff that couldn't be had on the last gen systems.

The graphics in some of the games I listed complete this task. Others gameplay. You just decided to not play them and hate on them for whatever reason.

halo was in development for PC for a long time before xbox was even a thing. unique situation

365 day uncharted and now it's 1095 day uncharted 3
uncharted really wasn't seen as that great or amazing when it came out, nobody was calling it "genre defining'. It was a good game, but the heaps of praise didn't come until Uncharted 2

here you move the goalposts again. You said it wasn't about whether the game was good or not. just genre defining shyt. So yeah, the wow I got from ryse graphics was definitely bigger than the wow I got from halo's

Or a halo you could use with kinect to jump and duck and roll around the living room?
don't nobody want to do this breh

they are dropping new functionality, and investing billions into technology and games. There's definitely a larger commitment of time and money that goes into bringing these games and systems out. To call them "cheap' and "lazy" is to admit you have no idea what you are talking about.

remember when systems wouldn't even launch without 5-6 game changers on the release day:ohlawd:

then it slowly went to 3-4 months :yeshrug:

now what the fukk is this shyt :mjcry:

no uncharted, god of war, gears of war, halo.. barely any games developed purely for next gen.. none of them AAA

i mean don't get me wrong.. i'm enjoying what's dropped.. but i was just thinking of this same thing the other day.. where are THE games we all wanna see... that game that makes you :merchant: cause you can't even believe it's possible in a game yet
Finally someone understands what Im trying to convey , I'm not saying the games of this generation are mediocre but its just that its nothing really distinctive from the last gen and now it feels like one long ass extended generation nothing groundbreaking has occurred yet

That's all I was saying. Metal gear is my fav game right now. It's amazing. But it's easily playable on the PS3

Now I see the games are coming. The next level, supposed to blow our minds, type of shyt. They showed a few at the last e3. Hopefully a lot more this one

All I was saying is that cycle is too fukking long compared to what it used to be. Systems were cut off in months. Games were made for the new systems years in advance to have that precious close to launch release

this is a joke right ? Half Life sold millions its first year. Unreal was so successful they released Unreal Tournament right after.. I bet you didnt even know Unreal was a game before Unreal Tournament, and some of the maps in Unreal Tournament were from Unreal the original.

base model imacs could play Unreal and Quake 3 and pentium processors back then were WAY more powerful than base model imacs 333 mhz computers and basic video card.

You have no idea what you are talking about, stop replying to this thread please. Half life saw most of its sales later on ?

How ? :dame:

years later Half Life 2 came out, and later Counter-Strike was a stand alone sale so why the fukk would people buy half life LATER ? Unreal Tournament sold MILLIONS, it wasnt repackaged, they came out with Unreal 2k3 and Unreal 2k4 and they both went on to sell millions

How old are you again? Theres no way you are my age or close to it.. I cant put you above 22..

Counter Strike was a fukking Half Life expansion when it first came out :dead: the most popular FPS of all time was an expansion pack for at the time the most popular FPS :heh: Counter Strike quick popularity is based on how popular Half Life was at the time..

:dwillhuh: people are coming actual facts and stats and hes not

:snoop:
I'm not talking about you, I mean compared with what other dude is saying. Other dude just discrediting games, reducing them to "Just better graphics, sequels, rehash, remake, remaster blah blah." and then outright calling games trash without having played them.

Y'all gotta look at shyt in context, 2013+ compared to the start of last gen and two years into it the gaming industry is a different beast. AAA games are much more riskier, games are much more ambitious so it takes time and on top of that the adoption rate wasn't set in stone so that explains lots of cross platform games. Hell, konami thought PS4 wouldn't be selling as much so they played it safe and designed Fox Engine for last gen too to be safe.
There's imo, a good amount of games that are on next gen right now that justify buying one.

Don't look at it from the "I got a GTX 980TI with 32GB RAM and 2 2TB SSD's running in Raid-0 :stopitslime:" angle.
If someone jumped from a PS3/360 to a PS4, not only is he getting technically and visually superior multiplatform games compared to it's last gen counterpart, he also has RIGHT NOW access to:

Bloodborne
MGSV(The better console version)
Batman Arkham Knight
Driveclub
Witcher 3
Middle-Earth Shadows of Mordor
Resogun
Mortal Kombat X(This shyt ain't even coming to PS3 no more and the PC version is fukked.)
Until Dawn

Then if said person haven't really played some classics last gen due to be a 360 gamer, he can pick up TLOU Remastered which is superior to the PS3 version, Uncharted Collection which drops next month and is a REALLY good looking and improved remaster compared to the typical "1080P and 40-60ishfps" remasters and then you got upcoming titles like Fallout 4, Star Wars Battlefront etc.

None of those games anyone will care about in 6 months let alone a year. Thats kind of the point, that none of these games have longevity no more.

That's a whole different argument and it's subjective because we don't know what everyone is playing. If there's newer games coming out all the time, of course people won't be still playing older shyt. On top of that the games you're talking about people care about a year later are usually MP games since they're infinitely replayable. My list of games aren't MP games and let's be honest, there wasn't many games with longevity last gen that weren't MP games. Most games you played and finished back then.

A SP game will be memorable even if it's not being played years later. I still remember how impactful TLOU was even though I only played it once and dabbled into the MP here and there . It still was incredible.

Newer games in franchises come out like clockwork nowadays so of course "those games" will be forgotten.

From that list, people will still play Bloodborne once DLC comes out but then a few months later Dark Souls 3 will launch so people will be moving onto the newer thing.
Batman Arkham Knight is a one done deal.
Driveclub I still play time to time since there's new updates and stuff coming to it periodically.
Witcher 3 is a one and done deal.
Middle Earth same.
Resogun was a launch game.
Mortal Kombat X I don't know that's a fighting game I don't follow them like that.
Until Dawn was an enjoyable play.

The real "meaty" games that will be played for long time are basically MP games such as Destiny. A big expansion dropping this week but ya'll gonna say it don't count since it's just a cross gen game.
Halo 5 drops soon which I'm sure if it's dope will hold people over for years.
Idk man. It just sounds like y'all don't really want to play anything. There's a bunch of games out, I don't even have time to even play em all.
